My car started to shift pretty hard and it was really jerky yesterday. This morning was the same. The CEL came on during my morning commute and I just checked the code at lunch and it was a P0711 code. My car just ticked over 35,000 miles today and has only had the Voltage wastegate issue thus far. I'm pretty bummed that I'm having this issue now with the temperature sensor on the transmission.

Sorry to hear that man. I hope you can get it all straighten out.

I've had the exact same two issues as you. On the up side, they're relatively quick fixes. When they did my transmission though I had to take it back after about a week because the transmission felt off to me. They reset whatever it is that "learns" the way you drive and haven't had a problem since.

Add me to the list. Car is shifting hard and the cel is on. Taking it in tomorrow. I have a 2012 SX with 19k miles on it.

It should be pretty straight forward for them as long as the CEL is for the trans. I wouldn't be surprised if they actually keep the new sensor in stock now, as well. I had less then 10k miles when mine failed, and I've now driven nearly 45k miles with the new sensor and have had no issues.

Oh how I would like having only 19k miles on my '12 SX...I'll be breaking the 55,000 mile barrier next week...

I feel your pain. I'm coming up on 66K.

LOL, I drive 9 miles round trip to work. The cel was the PO711. The part was instock. They also did the ECM upgrade SA151.

Just started having this issue. No CEL, but I decided to have them take a look at it and maybe reset the shift points. I have an appointment on Wednesday, and I'll update with the result.
I noticed a huge difference when they reset my shift points. It's definitely something I would recommend every now and then.

I did not read through the entire thread so this may have been mentioned. If you have a DTC p0711, p0712, or p0713 the trans fluid temp sensor needs replaced. The sensor needs to be replaced even if the code is a history code and not a present code. We stock them at my dealer and do them quite frequently.

Also resetting your trans adaptive values never hurts, I reset mine every oil change at least sometimes more if I get bored. I have my own gds so I do it whenever.

The last time I took my car in, I asked about resetting the "transmission shift points/values/something" (i forget exactly what I said) but the service lady said if there wasn't a TSB for it, they wouldn't do it...This is the first time they haven't been as helpful with something like this.

I wonder if I would have said resetting the "trans adaptive value" maybe they would have. What exactly should I ask to get this? I feel like this would be helpful for me, because there are times it feels like transmission hangs a bit before a shift.

Which dealership was this at?

Ask to speak to the service manager, and ask them to hook up the GDS scan tool to reset your adaptive transmission shift points. If they don't know what you're talking about..time find a new dealer. That's basic stuff they should know.

The guys at Butler Kia in Fishers did mine for me no questions asked, and didn't charge me a penny.

You shouldn't be charged for resetting the adaptive values....it only takes 10 seconds to do once the GDS is connected. I agree if the dealer doesn't know what you are talking about they are complete jackasses. I have no problem doing it if the customer requests, it's called customer service and keeping the customer happy.

^ If only all dealerships had your attitude...mine sucks.

So an update to my previous post.

Took my car into the dealer to have the transmission adaptive values reset, and at first they said they couldn't do it. Then one of the tech's chimed in that it won't fix my temp sensor issue, which I knew. I didn't have time to fight with them on the sensor, because I knew they would since I didn't have a CEL. I'll revisit that at a later time.

As far as the trans value reset, it made a big difference on the way may car feels. It shifts much quicker and smoother.

So does your car not have the codes that require the trans temp sensor replacement? Or what's going on that it hasn't been replaced yet? Also I believe that sensor is covered under powertrain warranty (10yr/100k) for you original owners with the issue that are passed 60k and thought it was only covered under basic warranty.

I've been noticing the delayed, then hard shifting issue after a cold start off and on for a couple of weeks. I have had no CEL's, and I have an OBD scanner and checked but have no history of one either. I called the other day and set an appointment for them to look at it, and see if they could just replace the sensor without a CEL. I had some other stuff come up where I wasn't able to leave my car with them for the day, to see if they could replace the sensor, if they even would. So I just ran in this morning and asked instead of dropping my car off, if they would mind just resetting my adaptive values to see if it would help. Again, I didn't go much into detail with them about the sensor, because I didn't have time to really deal with it today, I just made them aware of the issue I was having and told them I would address it in the future.

I bought the car used, but it only has 41k miles on it. So everything is still under the powertrain warranty...but that's another issue altogether. Whenever the tech brought my ticket up from the back, after he was done with my car I noticed a nice little note on the bottom of the ticket he handed the service manager. It said something like "Vehicle is heavily modified, particularly the turbo, intake, and suspension. Powertrain warranty is void." The service manager said, "they tried to not cover this under warranty (referring to the tech that worked on it), but I'll take care of it." I was in a hurry, and a little shocked, so I kind of just laughed about it for a minute and decided to leave before I said something about that specific tech I may have regretted. My car only has a K&N drop in filter, and the DIY vent to atmosphere BOV as far as mods in the engine bay. I don't know if I'll be going back to this specific dealership because obviously they are morons. It just sucks because it's really close to my house, and the next closest Kia dealership is 45 minutes away. I actually talked with Munky about this in detail today, and I now have more than enough information now on the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act thanks to him. With that information, I'm not worried about them not covering something under warranty, I just don't know if I want to deal with their stupidity.

It's been said before, but I wish my dealer had the same attitude you do. I appreciate the information you've shared here on this forum, it's been helpful to me on more than one occasion.

Keep in mind we as the tech's cannot determine if someone's warranty is voided or not, that call would come from the DPSM based off of what we tell them and they would want to see pictures. Its not that easy to just say nope your warranty is voided. If that is all that's done under your hood I would hate to see what that tech would say about a vehicle that is really heavily modified. Sounds like you may have to try the other dealer even though it is further away.

I just had to replace my trans fluid temp sensor on Thursday. I left worked Wednesday and on my way home started having hard shifts, ten the light came on DTC P0713. So drove to work Thursday and replaced my trans fluid temp sensor, re sealed my oil pan (leaking), replaced drivers seat bottom heating element (not working) and ordered a back up camera (not working intermittently).
