Windshield is littered with tiny specks

So ever since I got my 2014 STX I noticed that the windshield is littered with tiny specks. It looks like as if someone drove into a sandstorm.
Those are especially visible when the windshield is clean and on a sunny day. If I am wearing polarized sunglasses my windshield looks like a starry sky!
Could that be a defect of the actual windshield or could it be something caused by the previous owner? There is no paint damage anywhere on the vehicle.

@bad habit OMG what in the world!? Your pictures are just crazy. Could you do a close inspection to the outside surface of your windshield? Look very closely to see if all that stuff is cause by very small pits/cuts that form into the glass.

I just feel like, from the picture, it looks like something that is built up on top of the glass, and not actual pits/holes?

OK a Little detailing tip that works. Get some 0000 grit steel wool. It will not scratch your glass. rub in a straight line back and forth covering your entire wind shield. Works on all glass and will remove contaminates stuck to and embedded in the glass. Nothing will remove pits and chips in the glass But a good wax may diminish the effects from the sun from pitting but creates other issues regarding the use of your windshield wipers and streaking. This is much easier than all comments above.

I have the same problem it only is visible when the sun is shining and then I can't see lol...i used a clay bar on it it didn't work...rainx masked it a tiny bit but still there...i think it needs a new windshield because to get all those polishing tools and products and to spend your time doing it what would happen if it didn't work then u will be super pissed that u could have just spent an extra 100 or so and got a new windshield..

When I had my Optima my windshield wasn't as bad as yours and I was gonna buy the Griots polishing tool with the glass polisher, apparently it's suppose to work like a charm based on the reviews that I saw. Maybe you can give that a try before attempting to waste your money on getting a new windshield, and best of all you will have a very nice tool to use for future projects or any kinds of polishing job.

I was thinking, has anyone tried a clay bar or a razor on their windshield? Perhaps I can try that as it's getting worse. If not, I i will go for a replacement.
I think I will try to swing by the KIA dealer and see if they have any warranty. I drive in NY on the highway, this is not normal. Never had this with any of my previous 7 vehicles.
Pics below are from yesterday, on a freshly cleaned windshield.

Easy and cheap solution:

Ceriglass by Carpro
Amazon.com: CarPro Ceriglass Kit: Automotive

Glass polishing pad
Amazon.com: Griot's Garage 10665 3" Glass Polishing Pad, (Set of 3): Automotive

Drill attachment backing plate
http://www.amazon.com/Chemical-Guys...1_4?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1459231624&sr=1-4&keywords=drill+attachment+buffer

You can buy all this cheaper from Autogeek and i'm fairly sure Ceriglass is sold in a kit. But the power tool helps to get a better "cut" on the glass.

I'm unsure if Kia uses cheap glass but my windscreen was really pitted, but now looks brand new.

With glass pitting there's not much you can do you fix it aside from replacing the windshield, you can buy pit filler, or have a glass shop use pit filler but in the end it won't make it disappear or go away. (I work in a auto glass shop =) ) Some people ask about buffing which is possible, but you'll just end up looking through a distorted windshield instead of a pitted one.

Last year I drove through a what could be called a"sand storm", there was a lot of sand on the roads after the snow. Day was windy and I noticed cars slowing down on a local main road due to the dust cloud ahead then it moved along the highway and pelted our cars, have had those marks since. It is really annoying but not so bad most of the time that it bothers me. I had to replace the windshield on another car that had something similar and looks like they also used the wipers during and really scratched up the windshield. It was so bad that it made it difficult to drive at night and it was much worse with rain.

Depending on how bad it is, it may need to be replaced.
