Optima Saturation & Proximity Conundrum

I noticed a brand new LX parked in the parking garage at my office yesterday and was overcome with a confusing mix of pride and annoyance. And then today at a stoplight I pulled up next to another snow white EX...(but at least mine has tinted windows)

The new Optima is a great car and I obviously want people to realize that, but I also don't want to see one every couple of minutes on the road and I especially don't want my car lost in a sea of Optimas at my office.

Although I definitely enjoy seeing another '11 Optima pass me on the highway, I can't help but feel a little territorial when there's another one in such close proximity. One of the reasons I bought this car was that they're not seen very often on the road.

What do you guys think? Anyone else start feeling a little territorial in this situation? And do you think we'll see a day in the next couple of years where these Optimas are just as common as today's Camrys and Accords?

hahahaha i feel the exact same way. My buddy always tells me about how he see's optimas everywhere, and i just shrug it off. I have only seen one on the highway (red), one at a stoplight (blue), and one driving away from me (grey) in my city. I get happy for a second, then pissed because it's making me less unique lol. I have yet to see another white one, let alone another stick shift. i guess i still got that goin for me haha

^^ this lol. well, at least there seems to be a lot of space between the users of this site. Since we all seem to be fanatics, our Optima's should stand out in the crowd of our respective areas. as long we dont get some ricer bro's who wanna throw fart cannons, super wings, and yellow subie rims on their ride, i can cope with seeing a few optimas here and there

I will have to get use to that as well. The car I am coming out of was very rare (G8 GXP), there were only 1,829 of those ever made. In fact, i never saw another one. Now, I did see about 4 other levels of G8s, but still. In 2 years, only that many.....

I've only seen one other Optima in the Raleigh area so far since I purchased mine a couple of months ago. But I'm sure the day will come when they are everywhere. Unless the problems people are posting (pulling to the left, rattle on startup) are scaring people off.

I'm glad the Corsa Blue SXs are rather rare. Heck, we're halfway through 2011, and I've only seen ONE other SX actually in the wild (and it was black). I have seen a lot more EXs and LXs around Indy lately though.

The brand still has some years before it's acceptable to most consumers. Adoption will remain slow compared to the better established brands until then. However, the new Optima is among the fastest-selling cars out there right now (and 3 of the top 5 are Hyundais), in terms of time spent on the dealer's lot.

I have yet to see a Corsa Blue on the road, did see another in the lot not long ago :( but I have seen a few others (Including a couple SX's - one Black one in Seattle while I was on vacation... even took a photo of it driving past me at Pike Place Market.)

The closest dealer is about 25 miles from my town. That said, I've only seen one base model so far and it was only yesterday. I have had more questions and compliments on this car than anything I've owned to date. I think I'll be a little annoyed when they start crowding the streets too.

LOL, this week alone on base I've seen two Corsa Blue SXs, two Platinum Graphite's,one Bright Silver and one Dark Cherry with a spoiler. It's about half and half for male and female drivers. Most have tint and one of the Platinum's had an aftermarket grill. I've yet to see any with K5 badges. I stopped by the dealership during lunch and saw a White EX Turbo w/Tech package and "dealer's advantage $2495" for $30935 sticker. I'm sure it will be sold by Monday.

I have only ever seen 2 EVER. One was driving away from me (grey). The other was an EX black on the hi-way, so not really close to me. I'm still the only SX black fully loaded in my area .

As for your twin problem. You could always get new wheels. That always sets you apart!

I live in the land of Sorrentos, Fortes and Sonatas. I drive past the Hyundai dealership during my am commute and can't help but cackle, while thinking, "Those fools!" :D

I've spotted only 1 Spicy Red SX and Platinum LX. Then just last week, I spotted a Dark Cherry LX (?) and was PISSED!!!!! I got home and purchased the K5 badge and spoiler that nite. LOL

Yes, guys, we ladies like being original...in everything.:)

How's this for sick... I took mine back to show my salesmen the wheels and sub.. 5 dudes out there with there cameras saying " now we can show everyone what they can do to make it look like yours". I was like thanks idiots. I like being the only ex turbo on my side of town. Get alot of looks, and when my k5 badges come in, It should keep me looking different.

Same here! The owner of the dealership came out with his marketing manager but he said they couldn't rebadge because Kia wouldn't allow it. He took my wheel info and was going to outfit the showroom model.

Got a relatively new dealer here in SW Florida who is saturating the airwaves and print media with the word 'huge' and brags that he is the largest dealer in the country - with about 1700 Kias sold so far this year. I believe he has over 600 new Kias on his lot here in Cape Coral Florida - every color and option you could want. The word 'huge' has become a local joke - people use the word 'huge' in conversation, and it always brings a smile and and a laugh. This guy has been very successful in marketing his dealership and his Kias. With the attractive design and low selling price, I think there will soon be a lot more Kias on the road around here. And that is not really a bad thing - maybe it will put pressure on other dealers and perhaps even other car makers to build a better product and sell it with a little more favorable terms for the consumers.

But I do uinderstand - now that I said all that stuff...K5 badges for me too....

I spotted a bronze Optima last week. The other driver and I exchanged a friendly nod. That is only the second Optima I've seen on the road in my area since I got mine in April. It won't be long before that changes but it's nice to have a unique car even for a little while.

Conditioned souls desire 3 things: adoration, distinction, profit. Enviousness creeps into the picture as well, to add a little spice to the mix. Best to work on your spiritual life, to lessen and eliminate your conditioning, so you can be happy whether someone else owns the same brand of car, or options it out in nearly the same way as you.
