Bizarre Issues with 2012 Kia Optima SX; No sound from radio, no ECO mode + more

My Optima has the Infinity Sound System and Nav. This past weekend, the sound on the stereo went out although the unit still has power (displays stations, volume, etc). I just have no sound for FM/AM/XM or Streaming Bluetooth. I do have sound for turn-by-turn directions. I have tried 3 different resets that were supposed to potentially resolve this issue:

  • Unplugging the relay fuse.
  • Reset on the radio
  • Unplug negative battery terminal
None of these resolved the issue. However, I'm now seeing that I don't have Eco mode available on my vehicle anymore (no indicator when I hit the button) and my wiper fluid is not working. Is there any reason I'd be having all these issues at the same time?

Thanks in advance.

You are :censored: if you do not have your 5year/60k mile warranty coverage active!!

I say this because you may have to go to the dealer to have this problem resolved.:(

Sounds like an electrical short or bad BCM problem, which can get costly to repair and replace.

I hope that I am wrong on this one.

I just dealt with this in monday for the audio issue. The bluetooth and sound from the nav still worked just no volume. I landed up putting a new head unit in the vehicle but didn't fix the issue. Turns out it was a bad connection at the amp behind the passenger side quarter panel in the trunk. Unplugging and plugging it back in fixed the issue for me. Maybe try it, very easy to access

Did you get your oil changed at a KIA dealership?

If so, did the KIA tech have any ideas to what your problem could be?

One other thing that could be causing your electrical glitches is maybe a low voltage issue caused by an weak/defective battery.

I have no idea how sensitive KIA electronics are to low voltage conditions, but the Nissan cars I have owned got very buggy when you have a weak/defective battery.

Example being the power windows, radio, starter and other electronic systems act weird and glitchy until you replace the battery.

So i would have your battery check by an auto store and see it is good or not if KIA gives you the run around.

Didn't get the oil change at my Kia dealership but ended up taking it there after the issues with the starter since I didn't want to mess around with having it die on me or have a major electrical issue that I let slide. Just got the call back and the resolution of the issues is as follows:

Eco mode and starter issues - Related to a battery that was nearly dead. Replacing this should solve those issues.
Radio sound issues - There was an internal short in the radio. Kia is getting me a remanufactured radio core which should resolve that issue.
Wiper fluid issues - Safelite auto glass tech hadn't reattached the hose after replacing my windshield on Tuesday. No issue here.

Thank you all again for your input and help. Looks like it'll be less than $350 to address all the issues so not as bad as I'd feared.

Glad you got it sorted out.:D

You should have mentioned the windshield replacement in your first post, it would have helped narrowed down the cause of the wiper sprayer issue.:p

I guess i was right on the money about the battery maybe being the cause of the electrical glitches.

It seems that with the newer electronic filled cars, the battery should be the first thing tested when the electronics get weird.
