Trip A Trip B info

I am a little confused about the Trip A Trip B display on my 2012 EX. I checked the manual and am still confused.
I parked my car at Dr. office and when I came out and went a short distance I noticed my Trip A mileage was only 3 miles. I dont know how it reset. Perhaps I accidently hit the trip button. What I am confused about is when I hit the trip button showing temp and odometer setting it goes to Trip B. Hit trip again and it shows mileage info etc. Does that apply to Trip A or Trip B. I dont follow it?

After I hit trip b and those different mileage data show up are those figures pertinent to Trip B or are they cumulative for all miles. I thought from reading the manual there would be separate info for the trip a setting and then separate for trip b. Looking at the manual illustration is seems to show trip a then all the mileage info then trip b and all the mileage info. I only see the mileage info after hitting trip button after trip b is displayed???
I only have 400 miles on od.
