I'm not very happy with the speakers in my 2012 Optima EX.

There is NO BASS whatsoever... even turned all the way up.

Just wondering what setups others have upgraded to? I don't really want subs. And would prefer not to change the headunit

my #4 priority when purchasing my car was stereo quality...
you're right, the standard stereo is absolute rubbish...

My Boston Acoustic door speakers work very well. Good enough that I can feel it on my legs over the subs. Very nice sound quality if sub is shut off.

Premium Stereo in the optima is amazing.. you shouldn't have opted out..

I have been very impressed with my Infinity system in my SX. Even the sub seems to have a nice deep punch for a factory sub. In my younger days, I would have swapped out all the speakers, added high power amps and a nice sub but I really don't see the need to do anything to this car...it sounds good and I am happy with the performance of the speakers. I'm sure it could be far better but it suits my needs just fine:)

Tried adjusting the equalizer?

To be honest thats one of the reasons why I didn't buy the EX my dealership had on the lot a couple of months ago. I felt like the sound system in my Forte was better than the Optimas stock system. At least my Forte has a "Power Bass" option in the setup, in addition to the normal EQ bass. Its actually pretty decent.

Yeah, the Non-Nav Optima system is pretty much garbage tooo... I think I will be doing components 6.5s in front, with 6.5s in the back. Also, thinking about doing a powered sub or a single 12?

I am finding it hard to figure out exactly what I should be getting though (speaker ohms, wattage, depth issues, etc?)? There doesn't seem to be much in the way of specifics that I can find, so if there are any experts out there, please feel free to chime in...

Stock speakers in non NAV models are garbage. I kinda wish I had gotten the tech package but I really couldn't see spending ~$1500 on it. I have a 360w JBL monoblock amp and a 12" SSA dvc sub. Hits plenty hard - almost too hard at times. It's nice to have the extra bass but the overall sound quality still isn't great because the factory speakers (4x 6.5" if I'm not mistaken) are terrible and only get a few watts of power from the factory HU. I'm debating whether to add the Chinese Ebay NAV or get another amp and some components. One other thing that I would add is that if you do add a decent sub get some dynamat or fatmat. This thing rattles like a mother.

It's no longer just a nav option - the 8-speaker infinity system comes with premium package on the 2012's....

Replaced the junk stock speakers with Kicker DS 6.2 component speakers. The sound is much better, it won't blow the doors off but much better. No cracking all the way to full volume. Stock speakers are not heavy enough to make good paper weights. They are junk when you compare them to the Kicker's. Pretty easy job, it took about 1 1/2 hours with the help of a friend. Paid $170 for the 2 pairs, well worth the money.

I find the infinity sound system to be very decent, I know when it comes to sound it's a matter of taste & preference, it is more than enough for me, now I Understand that It may not be up to your standards, however I don't think that by any standards it can be considered horribly disappointing . A horribly disappointing sound system is the oem non-infinity, its complete garbage. I own 2 cars with & without infinity & the difference is day & night.
