Our son and his family live about 30 miles away from us and when we visit the last part of the drive is a relatively steep hill . Every time we park in front of their house we notice the brakes ( I think) smell burning yet I am obviously not using the brakes too often when I am going up hill .The grade is relatively steep and it is about a 6 minute drive up the steep grade to their house .. By the way this is my second Kia Optima , My first was a GDI and this one is the hybrid .I noticed that burning smell on both cars .Thoughts or comments would be most welcomed

It could be the brakes making the burning smell if you are riding them while you move up the up the hill.

I have the manual automatic, so I would just leave the car in the first or second gear to pull up the hill.

If you do not have the manual select, I would put the shifter in "L" and just give it gas to pull the hill without using the brakes unless you have to stop midway up the hill.

However, if you really sure about not riding the brakes, then I would guess that your transmission fluid is the cause of the burning smell due to it overheating while trying to pull the car up the hill.:(
