I have USAA and can't complain. I work for them now as an insurance agent but even before I was employed I used them for all my vehicles. One thing I can say about working for USAA may not be the cheapest rates but will always be top notch service.

There is a lot of good info in this thread...along with some not so good info.

Each provider will have different rates in different areas. There is a lot of information that goes into the final calculation of your insurance premium. This makes it hard to do a simple comparison when you are talking about the insured being two different people.

I own an Allstate agency in upstate, NY. In my area of NY, Allstate usually cannot be beat if you have good credit and a good driving record. Even with one or two accidents, Allstate is always very competitive. What I love seeing mentioned here is the service quality that people are receiving. Many times, people are just looking at price and not anything else. But many times, you get what you pay for. I have been lucky enough to get a majority of my new business from referrals of existing customers. It is amazing the way that some agents deal with customers. I have gone to crash scenes before and picked my customers up, and brought them home or to work. Helped them pick their kids up from daycare while my employee picks up their rental car, etc... Simple things like this, that might make paying an extra couple bucks a year worth it so that you have an actual person that cares.

My best recommendation would be to shop around at least every couple years. Most people think that because they have been with someone for a long time that they are getting the best possible rates. This is simply not true!! Insurance companies change the "product" they offer quite frequently. What this means is that you are probably missing out on a lot of the new features that the company offers. You may also be missing out on discounts, and possible rate reductions that have occurred. You will also get special discounts from other insurance providers to give you incentive to switch over!

Back on topic though...great thread, and keep it going!!

I pay $480 for 6 months with Nationwide for 100/300 coverage. Liberty mutual quoted me at $520 per month when I requested a quote for the 2.0T. Other than that crazy quote, all the quotes I got were within about $50 for 6 months. I'm 25 and have no tickets or accidents on my driving record.

Been paying $342.99 per month ($4066/1 year) with Liberty Mutual ...and that's for the bare minimums on whatever I can legally get away with given that I'm financing and as insurance is mandatory in MA, i.e:

> Bodily Injury:$20,000/40,000
> Property Damage:$5,000
> $1000 Comprehensive Deductible
> $1000 Collision Deductible

Reading this thread reminds me of how much young people get raped when they own a vehicle in Massachusetts. Hopefully the rate will get slightly less brutal when I switch to another company. (Believe it or not that was the lowest rate I was able to find when I purchased my Optima last year). Guess I shouldn't be too alarmed, a co-worker of the same age was paying over $700 per month for his Jaguar due to an accident in his history.

I recently obtained a quote from GEICO for $1,317.50/6 months so guess that's what I'm going to have to go with.. At least it seems most of you GEICO customers are happy with their service and from what it sounds like their online account management features are simply great, so I have that to look forward to.

I'm with progressive paying $395 every 6 months for my Optima. I also have a 08 350z on the policy that is $415 per 6 months. What the ****, the optima is 5 years newer and costs less. Full coverage on both. 500/500 deductibles. Anyways I switched over from State Farm who I was with for 13 years and they decided to raise my car and home insurance 20% even though I never had a claim. Progressive has been very nice, quick to talk with someone when needed as well.

Dam some of you guys pay so little for insurance!! I've been with geico over 5 yrs never filed a claim or anything and I have defensive driving certificate (for work) and with the sxl I just started leasing a little over a month ago ..I'm paying 210 a month for full coverage and 500 ded. I just got a letter from liberty mutual saying I can get an additional 10% off from being in the real estate association so I'm thinking of giving them a call...I'm gonna try some of the other ones u guys mentioned like Allstate and State Farm and see if I can get a better quote!

We usually give you a discount for having a newer vehicle due to safety and upgrade in technology. It usually last for 3 years

I have USAA with 4 cars on my policy (2013 Optima SXL, 2013 Hyndai Sonata 2.0T, 03 Kia Spectra, 98 Toyota Carolla). I have been with them forever:D. Full coverage on 3 cars and liability on 1. 0 ded on comp and 250 coll.

I don't think they are the cheapest but their service is excellent! Years ago my daughter totaled her car and almost destroyed a Mustang convertible. My rates only went up a little and after 2 years they were lower than they were before the incident.

I might shop around to see what i can get since insurance companies are offering better incentives.

LMAO!

It's great when you suddenly realize you're out of toilet paper!

I also have State Farm! No offense but they are hands-down the best insurance company out there! That is just in my opinion obviously! But a fun fact for you guys out there that may not know this, State Farm is larger and has more financial backing then Geico and progressive combined! This comes directly from State Farm!!

I had to do some training about 10 yrs ago at the State Farm headquaters in Bloomington IL... Place was f'n massive, had fast food places in the cafeteria and their weather center was in-f'n-sane... They even had their own park & a house they burn over and over again for home insurance training...

As for insurance I have yet to find insurance where I live that is cheaper than Progressive. For 3 vehicles all with full coverage & $100 deductibles (comp & coll) we pay $725 for 6 months. Everything is bumped up 1 from the state minimum including uninsured motorist cause like nappy in TX there are a ton of people with out green cards or insurance here in SW GA too... However there are 0 "exotic cars" where I live I have to worry about...

When I was 20 I was paying $464.64 a month insurance and $420 a month car payment for a 2001 Mustang GT... When your young you get raped hard on insurance...

I have been with State Farm for the last 5 or so years. I have always been happy with them. I like having an agent that I can go see whenever I have a problem, not that I've had any. That said, when I bought the Optima last month, I ran the numbers and USAA came back cheaper, with better coverage. I had been considering switching anyway, so I went ahead and did it. It seems like everyone, or nearly, I know with an kind of military connection is with USAA. I've had a bank account with them for a while, and now they have my insurance.

I have my insurance pretty maxed out. Highest limits, with $500 deductible on collision, and I either 0 or $100 on comp; I don't remember. But I also have my med pay and everything else at maximum. I'm paying $139/mo. That's less than I was paying on my 2005 Grand Cherokee. When I first moved to Atlanta, I was paying almost $200/mo on a 1999 Explorer. Insurance is ridiculous here, because people don't know how to drive. A few years ago, Allstate did a study that showed we have a 1 in 8 chance of being in an accident in Atlanta. I've been here 8 years, and I've been in 1 accident. I've had hundreds of near misses. When I bought the Jeep, I though maybe it was invisible, so many people tried to hit me.

I had Allstate for a while, and I switched to State Farm because they gave me a better rate.

I've had Geico, but my only dealings with them have been as the person being hit by someone who was insured by Geico. I was not a happy camper. At all. Any chance that they had of ever being my insurance company again went out the window.

My mother worked for Progressive. They're OK, but I'd take State Farm or Allstate over them any day.

Both of my parents and one of my sisters worked for Nationwide, so naturally we were insured by them for decades. The only accident I'd ever had, and it was not my fault, they screwed me over hard. I dropped them immediately after and never looked back. They ended up forcing my father to retire at 27 years, and my sister was forced out at 25 years, all so they could save money on retirement benefits. They've changed the face of the company since then, but I will never trust them to insure anyone I care about.

So we have been with Metlife auto insurance we were quoted $1,750 for a 08 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 10 Lexus RX350, and 13 Kia Optima. The Lexus and Kia were full coverage. Coverage include 50k 100k 50k. 500 dollar deductible and PIP coverage of 2.5k. Also had rental car coverage which was $30 a day. 3 drivers 51, 49, and 23 (me). I got a qoute from Geico and they quoted us $1,234 for 6 months. The Lexus and Kia are still full coverage. Coverage was bumped up to 100k 200k 100k. $250 deductible and PIP coverage bumped to 10k. Also rental car coverage went to $35 a day. We now have 4 drivers on the policy instead of 3 like before, added my sister. Ages 51, 49, 23, 21. We had been with our previous insurance company for a long time so we thought we were getting the best deal but it turns out we weren't. Thanks to this thread we were able to increase our coverage, drivers and still save $516 every 6 months.

Also my ex insurance agent from Metlife said I was better off buying a BMW or MB because for Metlife the rating for a Kia Optima is in the same range. I was shocked to hear that. She said they rated the optima at 34 and the Lexus we have was rated at 17. I was like how's that even possible? She said Idk but that's what the under writer told her to tell me, when I asked why my insurance premium went from $900 something to $1,750 when we went to add the Optima. Crazy huh? The reason for us buying a Kia was so we could save money on insurance and gas. We could have easily bought another luxury car, but didn't thinking we would save money buying a Kia, I guess not.

Thanks to this thread I switched to Geico and I'm saving 28% on my car insurance!
NICE!

I've been with them for 5 years, totalled a BRAND NEW car (my first Optima), and it didn't change my premium a bit, and they cut the check within 3 or 4 days of the accident.

I had a new car within a week.

FYI my advice: ALWAYS GET GAP INSURANCE, BUT FROM THE BANK, NOT THE DEALER!

What's gap insurance?!
Dude....

Gap insurance is what's left over to pay off your car after the insurance company totals it out.
Let's say you total your car, your ins. company will pay, in most cases, true market value for your car, which most of the time is less than what you owe on it.
In my case, I totalled my first Optima and Geico paid about $22,000, which is considered fair market value.

Luckily, I bought gap insurance for $200 from my credit union where I got my loan, and they paid the remaining $4000 I owed on the car.
Some ins. companies offer replacement value, which eliminates the need for gap insurance, but most policies don't carry it.
I would call your ins. co. and ask about replacement coverage, and if they don't offer it, go to wherever you got your initial car loan, and ask what gap ins. would cost you.
Otherwise you could end up without a vehicle, and still thousands of dollars in debt.
