I'm installing some extra cameras into my Phoenix 12 inch head unit, and had an idea, that I'd like to get some input on:

The general idea is to take the two side camera inputs, and instead route them to a pair of cameras at the front bumper, instead of off to each side.

I have already confirmed that one camera will take up the entire viewing area when car monitor mode is engaged.

My question is if I have two cameras, will the viewing area split? And if it does split, can I then mechanically align both camera feeds to produce a stereo image?

I am just guessing, but perhaps this is more a question of how the phoenix system works. Maybe you can see how the side camera inputs would display, and then it's just a matter of alignment to get the effect you want? For 3D you need to adjust the parallax or "aim" both cameras at the subject, so you might need to get actuators to allow the cameras to aim (like how headlights steer around a corner, but instead the two cameras would point at the same object as it moves closer and farther the way your eyeballs do for parallax).

But another problem, is to be realistic 3D effect on the screen, in addition to getting the parallax right, you also need to make sure the cameras are close enough together. So it might work if you can mount them the proper distance from each other for a nice stereo 3D view.
