Replacing Muffler

Hey folks,

I do not really feel like there is a point to go full cat back with the 2.4. So in an effort to get a better sound and good looks, I was thinking of going with some mangaflow mufflers and flowmaster tips.

Costs of those are easy. however I do not want to get screwed on the cost.

Anyone have a rough idea how much a place would charge for removing what is there and putting in the magnaflows with welded on tips? That's assuming they would use parts I brought in instead of insisting I buy through them. There are a few meineke's and midas' near me but I heard they will overcharge. So I will probably head to a few shops to get an idea. I do not really want to buy the parts without knowing installation costs ya know.

I bought two Thrush turbo mufflers and had the "mid pipe" or whatever you guys call it (the one that looks like it would be a drive shaft) size increased installed and it was only $125. I kept the stock tips as to me they look fine, although i prefer the dual quad exhaust but haven't found one that I like. I was tempted to get the Magnaflow mufflers but IMO it was too loud. My setup is perfect, not too loud-just right.

Now if I can find a header I'll be happy!

If you can make it to Woodbridge, there's a thread on here about a shop that has come highly recommended. I think it's a Midas... contrary to what you've stated about them above. But then again, you're over in the People's Overtaxed Republic of MD... LOL! j/k!

I found a good shop in Glen Bunrie called Tony's Custom Exhaust. He quoted me $425 for 2 mangaflows and installation. I would have to buy what tips I wanted but he would put them on for me in that $425. Doesn't seem too bad. Although tips are another $100 at least.

Has me thinking off an offbrand muffler. Something like this.... Pair 2 25" Offset in 2 1 4" Center Out Stainless Steel Mufflers Magnaflow Style | eBay

Just grab those and have them do the installation. That could save some costs heh. Maybe I will just stop in when I am down there with some free time and talk with the guy. I have heard Cooley's in person and they sound great. So anything else would worry me with drone, etc. I CAN'T have a lot of drone with a baby on the way.

Yeah that is a great price. It didn't sound like he sold tips so that makes me wonder if I stopped in what I could find out. Hyattsville is just too far for me.
