Problem with the dealer

This is my first new car and I purchased it on Feb 4th. And I have to say I love the look on the car~~~~~

The dealer I got it from is about 30 miles away from my house. We agreed on the price on the internet before going there. When we get there they tried to play games with the numbers and we were going to leave the dealership w/o having a deal. Anyway, he agreed on the price but needed us to finance with Kia in order to get all the number together.

In the finance office, they again tried to play with the number. The paper is showing $500 more than the agreed price, good thing my wife and I caught it. After signing the paper, I was told the 2nd key is not here and it will be ready when I get my license plate.

As of yesterday I still do not have the license plate so I called the DOT yesterday and I was told they don't have my vehicle information. I called the dealership many times but most of their answer is "we are very busy at this time, let me check and call you back" or "Your plate is not here yet, it should be here next week". And finally I was able to contact the person who suppose to handle the title paperwork, she told me that they send the paperwork to a small company to process but there's a death in the family so that they took 2 days off... She said hopefully it will be here on Friday... I told her my temp plate is expiring soon and I need the second key, license plate as soon as possilble. I guess I just have to wait and see....

I have never bought a new car for myself, but my family did. I have never experienced this in the past and I can say this is by far the worst experience I have on a car experience.

Does anyone has experienced this before where they can't pickup the license plate and everything is being hold up?

That is not that uncommon at dealers of budget brands. They make it up in volume and things fall through the cracks.

You should just get them to give you another temp tag. Don't drive dirty. Unfortunately, you'll have to drive 30 miles to get it.

Also, the spare key and the plates should not be linked. Get them to give you the other key when you get there. If they have to order it from parts, then have them do that. I would bet no one is working on that one unless you bug the crap out of them.

FYI, my dealership mailed me the plates - I was also about 30 miles away.
Make sure you're on top of those temp tags. Things sometimes take longer than 30 days, but if temp tags are expired, you'd get a ticket. Curious on that additional $500, did they take it off?
Kia's dealer network really needs to step up its game.

My dealer just moved to a snazzy new building. They have a new phonemail answering system, and any option you press gets you, "please enter your voicemail password" as a response.

Only hitting zero from the main menu will ever get you a person.
Glad my dealer up here is nothing like some of the stories I have heard on these forums. Wow!

Sorry, forgot to mention I called Kia Corp yesterday regarding this as well.

Operator:Sorry to hear you have problem with the dealership, I will contact the dealership for you and they should contact you directly.
Me: Am I going to get a call from them today or tomorrow?
Operator: Oh that I do not know but I will contact them and see if this can be resolve
Me: Am I going to get a call from Kia Corp?
Operator: No, dealership will contact you directly for this issue....

To me it wasn't too much help... plus, I went to BBB website and see this dealership has a "F"....

I am just hoping I can get my license plate soon

Yes, and the finance guy was not happy and say that was the deal we agreed on.... the manager then came in and correct the numbers.... sign.
That blows! Not fun at all when dealing with a new car.
just called dealership again regarding my key, now they tell me the key has been lost.... I am really losing my patience here.... They tell me now they will make me a new key and it takes 2 weeks to do that. I was like 2 weeks??!!!??!!? I thought the parts department can make the key in 30 mins.... and they told me I have to drive all the way there to pick it up...WTF:dry:

10 mins later I received a call back from them they say hopefully they can have the key in 2 weeks, I asked them I really need them to send me the key so I don't have to drive all the way there. He finally said okay but they are not respondsible for the lost mail. I told him before sending it to me give me the tracking # then I should be good. He told me it will be by Fedex so I am hoping their service is reliable.

I really hope there's a good place I can get this out, Kia needs to teach dealership to treat customer better, not like crap. :(
Dealers can really be something. Mine pulled a similar thing with me on financing with Kia Financial even though it was a trade and I was paying cash. I simply refused and they were gracious enough to accept that.

They did have VIN etched windows (the latest type of "undercoating" they try to sell you and make more total profit on) previously installed on the car for which they were charging $800! I simply reduced my offer to them when I was making the deal to offset this. Another ploy they use is their "documentation(or doc.) fee". This ranges form $250-$500, and to me is pure profit. It is legal to do, however. I will not say "ok" to a deal until I ask how much it is, so I know how to adjust my offer. They continually adapt as we the consumers, learn their tricks, so BEWARE.

At any rate, besides accepting the deal we make, we have no recourse but to "ding" them on the all important company survey about the dealer that we usually get a few weeks after the purchase. Oh, and if you threaten them with the "survey", it's amazing, but those are the instances where you don't miraculously receive one. I therefore keep quiet about it. It is very important to them as it affects their allotment of inventory and other "perks" their car company gives them.

When my wife and father in law bought new cars (Honda & Acura) they do get a survey a few weeks later for their shopping experience. However I did not get one from Kia, kind of weird. Maybe that's why dealer don't care?
Ur not alone.
I got my temp plates. And the dealer kept bsing me. They told me they would have it this day then that day etc etc. then my temp expired and the general manager said. That they cannot issue another temp on the same car. It's illegal.
And that he would pay any tickets I got. Wtf right. And they had me sign blank contract. Because they messed up the first one and I wanted to put more down. And They changed our agreement price.
Sorry about your troubles. My dealer had also "lost" the second key to my car when I purchased it and had to order another one. I picked up the new key about a week later. To my surprise, about 6 weeks later I received an envelope in the mail with my original second key. Evidently they found it and tracked it down to my car, so I now have 3 keys.
You can send an email to Kia directly, I'm told that this is the one place feedback is actually heard.

You need to register for a login, but it's free and easy.

Can't believe they didn't take a key from another car and reprogram it....duh...that's a no brainier! As for your temp, they certainly can create another temp, or get off their ass and get you your plate. They could have sent/taken you to a local licensing location, told them the plates were lost, and you'd have them on the spot. They are giving you a raft of ****, and it's time you called them on it.
How do dealerships keep loosing keys? I had my car in so they could fix my paint and they called me a week later to tell me they couldn't do anything because they lost the keys. The new set took about a week. And it took them a month and a half to get the registration in so I could pick up my tags at the tag office. They gave me new temp tags, illegally, twice. And I got pulled over because the first temp tag fell off after a month. No ticket though

It's a possiblility that the OP has a regular key and not a "Smart Key". If that's the case, they can't be cut on site and have to be ordered. They're not your typical key. The cut portion is in a channel of the key and the edges are flat.
Well even the smart key is a KEY (removes from fob and obviously wouldn't be the same from another car) but yes they should be able to reprogram a fob.

My Dealer has been TOTALLY AWESOME! - Salazar KIA in Avondale, AZ ... been the best dealer in all my years / transactions to deal with. They are 5 miles from me, they offered to mail the plates and do this and do that. I said it wasn't needed as they are my way home I can pick them up. Sheesh I stop by occasionally just to shoot the sh*t and see what's new.
Speaking of which, I need an oil change soon! :)

I have a 2012 EX with premium package, it is a smart key system.
