My kia optima suddenly died on the highway. After a **** of a time getting it towed and to the dealer now start the wait for Corp Kia to approve a fix. I know this has been discussed many times. But i want to know how your experience have been with Gen 3 Kia repairs in 2021.

Was at highway speed and suddenly silent. CEl indicator was on, once stopped it would not crank.

Here where it gets interesting. Rental cars seem to be scarce in my area. They are out of cars and prices for 1 day rental are in the $200 range.
I got a good run on it, been lucky if we can call it like that, 82000 mile no major issues until now.

yes scarcity of rentals cuz they sold them off last year (assets must earn money) figuring they'd just back them back cheaper, then chip shortage leads to less new autos so shortages of autos everywhere. tiny economy cars seem to be exception, maybe....
Week 1 and still waiting formaproval from kia for engine replacement. Thinking of getting a K5
I got 130K out of my 2013 before engine replacement, but I watched the oil level like a hawk and was replenishing a quart/week since I drive over 400-miles a week to commute to work. To get a case number out of KIA care I told them I had a letter from an attorney stating they had to replace my engine gratis. Funny, don't know if others have mentioned this, but KIA painted my engine compartment a new color (lightish gray) and the dipstick changed to an orange handle. I guess this is a tell that the engine is not original.
Just got the news the new engine was approved. I'm guessing the car will be a few weeks before i get it back.
I have over 130K on my 2014 and it burns about half a quart every 1100 miles. My Kia service dept told me there was nothing to do about the oil usage BUT she said if you let it get low and the engine blows, it will be covered???
That a good amount of miles on that engine. I rarely passed 100m a week. Have you had any issues with the rebuilt engine? I think it would annoy me if the paint the engine bay. My car is white and that color would Stick out like sore thumb.
I never had issues with oil. Car maintained the oil level between changes. Engine actually felt strong but the last few days but I notice is was sounding louder
Kia pistons are really short and I would guess they would get a lot of seepage at high revs. Kia cooperate have the last word on replacing the engine but they work off what the dealer tells them about the condition of the engine. If you engine goes, work with the dealer for them to push the fix. Get even the manager involved

I want them to fix my motor when it blows. I have been keeping every change receipt, and when I change it myself I keep the receipts for that too, and take pictures. I love my 2014 K5. It neck breaks so many people, and it's the cheapest 300+ HP car I've ever had for maintenance. I never knew a turbo could be so reliable.
Finally got my car back. Have only run a few miles on the new engine. Engine feel fairly smooth and quiet compared to before. Will keep an eye on the oil and motor noise. Once i have more miles on it ill rev up more the engine see if the computer update took away some of the power.
I paid for the transmission oil changed so I don't expect any major repairs soon.
Total cost of engine replacement was $4900. Kia covered all the costs
