I have a 2013 Optima SxL, its recommend 5w30 or 40. Im switching to to 5w40 soon. I bought Castrol edge. I was wondering if this is a good oil and if it will work?

I have a 14 limited and always ran 5w-30. Now have 52k miles on it with no problems. I have sent out some oil analysis and yes there is some sheering but not enough for concern based on my reports. I know some run the 40 weight so I think you’ll be fine. These engines are prone to failure regardless of how well we maintain them.

I do agree, this is the answer. Tonester also mentioned in one of his posts, no sense using a high cost oil as if the engine is going to go, nothing will help.
I use Sam's club synblend 5-30 @ $1.79 qt or Walmart synthetic, Dexos approved 5 qts $17.
