New 2019 Kia Optima LX Owner - FCW not working?

980 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  K5 Optima Store
Howdy all!

First Kia...bought it for the standard safety features.

I came here because I get ZERO indication that my FCW or AEB is active?

I commute 40 miles a day in heavy traffic...assume I would get something...but nada...

The Lane Assist (car in two lanes) and steering wheel icons show up at 40 mph.

I have set all the Driver Assist menu items to active and most sensitive settings.

I am worried that I have been misled and the Kia Optima LX model (base) doesn't have FCW and AEB...or that I need the more expensive models with Stop and Go autonomous cruise control...or maybe FCW or AEB only works in cruise control mode?

I saw a thread on a 2016 model Optima with similar lack of FCW/AEB indications and the responses were less that definitive....

Any thoughts?

Not familiar with the '19 features, but decided to check the factory equipment and the FCW forward collision warning is standard on all 4 models, so guess it's time to break out the owner's manual for review. FCA forward collision avoidance city/urban is standard on the LX2.4 S2.4, but add pedestrian for the EX and SX.

CC standard on all 4, but you are correct in that smart cc in only on the EX, SX.

THanks for response - I did read in the owner's manual that Traction Control must be activated for FCW/AEB to work. I checked and TC is activated, it is default to on when you start car. If you disable, you get warning light on dash that your AEB is off....

So appears I do have FCW/AEB...but I must be a great driver and never give it reason to alarm....or not?

That might be correct..........................time will tell.
I had similar initial worries when I first got my car but eventually discovered that at least it does function; I *think* some of the factors to get it to engage is how fast your closing speed is when approaching the car in front of you, combined with how long you can manage to delay applying the brake pedal to slow down.
Welcome to the Optima Forums.

Congrats on getting your 2016 Kia Optima LX.

I am not familiar with this unfortunately, so I won't be much help.

However, if there is anything we can help you find for your ride, don't hesitate to reach out.
