Interesting Conversation with my Dealer Today.......

So I just got back from my dealership since I plan to take FULL advantage of my 12 month / 12K mile FREE adjustment period. I had a 4-wheel alignment done and had my WGA voltage checked. The TSB states that the WGA voltage should be 4.2 V +/- 0.1. I wanted to personally see it on the device they use to test it for my own piece of mind and to know they aren't BSing me. The voltage came up at 4.17 V which I am thrilled about. I have not had any issues with my car but just wanted to know what it was and adjust if necessary. The car is also 100% to spec on the Hunter alignment rack:smile:

I got to go back there and shoot the $h!t with the tech and he told me to be thankful I have a 2011 versus a 2012 as they are having a TON of issues with the build quality on the 2012 Optimas. He said, and I quote..."it's like they are just throwing them together as fast as they can due to the demand and the quality sucks". He stated that he has seen so many 2012's with the WGA issue than he stopped counting and that there are other "issues" as well.

I understand that this is his personal opinion but he works on these cars every day and they are the largest KIA dealer in my area. All I can say is that I hope those of you with 2012's have better luck than it sounds most folks are having and that KIA gets their $h!t together since they have a great looking car that needs to be trouble free to achieve the sales results they so desperately want.

I have no opinion one way or another...just thought this conversation was very enlightening and wanted to share it with my friends!

Enjoy the weekend guys and gals:yahoo:

WGA= Wastegate Actuator

Wastegate Actuator = An actuator that actuates the wastegate ;)

Sorry man, gotta cook din so that's all you get.
Huh. I thought the canooter valve did that. I learn something new everytime I visit this forum.
I have a Ph.D. in chemistry, and so I have about 1% increased ability to learn all this stuff lol.
You should catch on quite easily. Check out the 3rd page like 5 posts down for an explaination on whats going on in your turbo/intercooler system. It might make a bit more sense. I think there is a good video somewhere in that thread too. http://www.optimaforums.com/forum/6...cussion/2641-injen-intake-installed-pics.html
C'mon Evil...how long does it take to cook hot dogs??? Trying to make us all think your domesticated? I know you too well:laugh:

I would have just stopped at VODKA:drinking:

That stuff tastes good but I could never get over the name, just so out of sync with what it actually is...maybe whiskey sauce sounds better...yaeger sauce?
well, i didn't want to hear that about the 2012's:(... Haven't even broke 200 miles yet lol... I thought the sticker said soemthing like 47% or 57% of the car was made in Korea? Does that sound right..

I still need to RTFM also... been to lazy lol
SG, you could ruin a wet dream. Don't wish your evil on my 2012 domestic SX!
It's threads like this that make me nervous about buying an Optima. I'm coming from my last two cars being Toyota's (both Prius 1st gen and 2nd gen) where I had very little if any problems with the car. I do alot of driving and don't have time to spend in the service center for days getting issues resolved.

I just hope that what we're seeing is a minority of reality (albeit a vocal one) and that for everyone person on these forums talking about engine failures, burning smells, electrical problems, turbo problems, etc. there are well over a dozen that are happily driving around with perfectly fine cars.

Only time will tell i guess.. Thank god for the warranty
Don't shoot the messenger guys...just thought I'd share what I was told by a highly reputable high volume dealer source. I will keep these things to myself in the future as I would feel terrible if I ruined any one elses wet dreams:smile:
Dude, that tech was just lying to you to make you feel better about being stuck with "last year's" super car.

For god's sakes, get a new one!
I wonder why wouldn't the dealer keep such info to himself? Who wants a bad publicity, especially on the car that just picking up steam? Doesn't he know that people talk? Facebook, Twitter, OptimaForums, hello?
I wonder why wouldn't the dealer keep such info to himself?
Xx - I'll tell you why and I'll use this analogy. I am in the security sales and installation business. Everyone knows that sales folks will tell you anything to get a sale (or most of them will). On the other hand, people (the folks that bought the alarm) like talking to my installers because they know or feel that they will get the TRUTH about the product they were sold and the design that the salesman created to protect their home. Technicians, general statement of course, are VERY free with their words and what they say to customers without understandinmg the implications of their statement. We have to constantly reprimand installers and tell them to KEEP THEIR MOUTHS SHUT. Do your job...be kind and courteous...but KYMS!!!

I have had techs at various car dealerships tell me things that would make you cringe and if their boss knew, WOW...I'd hate to be that guy. I greatly appreciated his honesty and want him to continue to be honest with me in the future so I, too, keep MY mouth shut, and don't share these comments with management.

Was relocated to CA once and got Comcast for my TV and Internet. The tech was a nice guy but blasted his company every chance he got as long as I was willing to listen. People say the [email protected] things and are always unpredictable.

Make sense? It is human nature to want to share what you know and sometimes it is not in the best interest of the company you are working for:(

So what...it's kias problem for the next 10yr/100k miles
+1 SX ^^^ but it may also inconvenience the owner of the car to the point where they start thing about trading it in for something else as a few members have already done. Not everyone is willing to put up with one thing after another just because they have a nice long warranty but I clearly understand your point.
^SG, that is so true. I am in sales and have had my installers f me over so many times by speaking what they believe is true, almost ruining a customer/seller relationship.
Blue - unfortunately, it's the nature of the "beast" but I'll bet ya money that Evil Mechanic would never do anything like this to his customers:smile:
We don't sell the cars we service, so I don't really fit the bill.

We do however allow the customer to choose if they want cheaper parts or more expensive parts and we give our opinion and past experiences on the quality of those parts.
Confession time; I got the kia because I would have loved to be inconvenienced by vw at 98k miles when my cam started making noises. I inspected it at 90k and noted some wear, so now the optima is my daily driver to cut down miles severely on my 2005 passat tdi, which I'll deal with on my terms as time and money allow.
If warranty is an inconvenience, then I'm a monkey's uncle...
