Fette Kia Clifton NJ (buyer beware)

I purchased a 2013 Optima EX (with 46 miles on the odometer) on July 8, 2013. They had a group of cars that were marked down about $4,000 below sticker. The sign at the dealership read New Optima $17,990.

After the customary haggling about the price of my trade-in (2010 Forte) we agreed upon a price and I gave them a check for the balance.

After taking delivery I called Sirius Radio to transfer my time from the Forte to the Optima. Sirius informed me my (90 day) trial would end on August 1st. When I questioned why August (I purchased the car in July), they told me Fette Kia started the radio subscription on in May. After 2 phone calls to my salesman (Pedro Martinez) (no return calls) I went to the dealer to complain and they adjusted the time.

Next problem was with my registration..............the temporary license plate they gave me was about to expire so I call Fette to ask when my permanent registration would be issued. I explained to them I needed it soon because I could not use the car with an "expired temp plate". They told me the person working on this was on vacation and I had to check back next week........... I went to the dealer (took a vacation day) to resolve this issue and request another temp plate so I could drive the car to work. The person in the office was staring at her PC screen for a few minutes and asked another employee to take a look. They finally told me that "someone" made a mistake in the system and they had to call my salesman to fix it.

I can understand a "mistake" so I asked for another temp plate because mine would expire the next day. The salesman told me they couldn't give me another temp plate (it costs them money to do this) and he needed my old license plate number and my old registration so he could transfer them to the new car. I explained to him I shredded the old registration and I didn't have the plates with me. I had to go home to make sure I gave him the correct plate number................since he NEVER EVER returns phone calls I had to drive back to the dealer. With my plates in hand I went directly to the sales manager (Pat Rizzo) and told him (in a VERY LOUD voice), I want my $%$ING registration and I want it right &^%$ing now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Five minutes later I had my paperwork. Amazing what you can accomplish with a loud voice (a few choice words) and a showroom full of people.

I went back home to write a complaint to the general manager (Chris Ciresi) of the dealership. I "noticed" all of my paperwork was dated June 8 NOT July 8. I had to wait a couple of hours to return to Fette because I didn't want to say or do something stupid that might end in my arrest. I told the sales manager that we have another problem............he said the person in the office was busy I could wait or they would prepare the papers and call me. I asked him to call me (he never did). I asked him to make sure my Warranty started on the correct date and he looked me in the eye and "assured" me the warranty started on July 8 not June 8. He was sure because he was the one that put this in the computer................................ I had to return to the dealership to question what happened and they issued "one" of the six papers with the correct July 8 date.

I called Kia they told me the Warranty started in April. I explained the situation and they told me the car I purchased was a "test drive demo" and the Fette invoked the warranty in April. Kia told me Fette could fix this and adjust the warranty to start on the correct date (minus the 46 miles) which I could live with.

I have opened two cases with Kia and met with the general manager at Fette in person. My warranty remains April 2013.........

There are a few more problems I could list here but I think you get the message.

I had a similar issue with Jack Daniels Kia... They've messed up my paperwork numerous times, charged me for all weather floor mat but never gave them to me, wouldn't return my phone calls. I've eventually had to call Kia customer service and i was eventually told i'm screwed even though it's not my fault cause the sales manger refuses to refund me for the floor mat. I've gotten so mad that i've went to every single car dealer review site known to man kind and left a horrendous review. Eventualyl a week or so later, a different department of customer service called me and told me they'll refund me. I'd highly recommend you do the same and when you leave ur review, use your real name so they can trace you back from your customer service complaint.

The entire dealership was in trouble as well as the district manager because of my complaint and now whenever i go there, they treat me better. I don't understand why all the Kia dealers are such crap

also, i live in clifton and went to Fette for parts few times... their parts department is a little better

I can somewhat relate, but with a much better outcome. The dealership I bought my car from screwed up the paperwork and sold me the wrong car. The sold me the same car but in black and I ended up with a registration with the wrong VIN on it. They realized a couple of days later when the tried to sell the black one and it was already "sold". They were great with solving the problem, couriered a temp certificate to me, and the next day couriered all the proper paperwork back to me. I only had to make one 10 minute stop at the insurance dealer to correct the paperwork they had and all was done with minimal effort and time involved by me. That is one thing I love about my dealer, the sales staff and management may suck ass but the financial guy that has done 2 of our 3 cars is pretty easy to deal with.

Are there any sites you can recommend?
I bought(leased) my car from Fette in Aug and did not have any problems at all. My plates and registration arrived about 2 1/2 weeks after I got the car. I would keep track of all your conversations with dates and names just in case there is an issue down the road. Keep the general managers phone # on speed dial.

I have the call the GM numerous times, he does not return phone calls.
If that is the case, like you said, sometimes being loud in the show room gets results. Also, name names in your negative reviews. Bad publicity spreads quickly.

Hmm I'll have to look them up... but i won't be able to help u out until Thursday.... i'm slammed trying to keep up with grad school while working full time =( and my work internet is too restrictive for me to search for dealer reviews
I have opened a case with Kia via their web site. Although they "agree" with me in principle the only thing they can tell me is Fette will not return their calls. This has been going on for weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a problem with a new Saturn about 15 years ago, once I called GM I got results.

My next car will NOT be a Kia, time to go back to GM or Ford
filing a case against the dealership

Unfortunately "opening a case" with Kia does NOTHING. Giving the consumer a case number pacifies and temporizes the consumer for a while, that's all. I've had to open two consumer cases against Kia and they NEVER ever follow-up with you.

Note that I've never had to file any type of consumer case against any dealership except for Kia (Phoenix Earnhardt Kia) . They have a long way to go to achieve consumer satisfaction

To anyone very satisfied with their Kia dealership, consider yourselves lucky.

Can't agree more....................Unfortunately "opening a case" with Kia does NOTHING. Giving the consumer a case number pacifies and temporizes the consumer for a while. They the dealership and Kia are counting on you getting tired of complaining and you will eventually go away.

They sold you the car they have their money and they don't care
oops i completely forgot about giving you the links... Sorry! i'm working full time and going to grad school part time... so i've been quiet busy.

I've made an account with them, wrote some terrible reviews including names of sales, manager, finance, pretty much anyone that talked to me. I've also mentioned how the kia customer service did nothing to help me and i'll never buy a Kia again especially from that dealer. They've called me back the next day or so... (not even sure how that's possible) but they've apologized and told me they'll reimburse me and that the dealership will be penalized. So best of luck? I was pretty pissed about getting screwed over $75, can't imagine what you'd be feeling. But don't let a horrible dealer experience stop you from buying Kia if they continue making good cars when you're in the market again. I'd prob drive this to the ground and buy another Kia if it's a good car at the time

Also, in your reviews, mention you're writing the same reviews for the dealer/Kia in every car dealer review site you can find as well as this and other Kia forums

After reading all of this I am very lucky to have a great dealer in the area, sales, management and service wise. Ive dealt with many dealers of different manufactures in different areas of the country and this Kia dealer is the best!
unfortunately, most members here have had terrible experience with their dealers... Kia needs to be slightly more selective or provide better training

Yes GM is a little more proactive. Kia customer Service is a complete disappointment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I finally heard form the dealership, after contacting John Fette. We are discussing the possibilty of purchasing an extended warranty (at a discounted) price to finally settle this. This offer was made at my request because I just want to move on.

He is offering me the choice of Zurich or Ford warranty that would extend the Kia Warranty for 10 years 100,000 miles
what is zurich warranty?
the discount better be 99.99% off! I wouldn't pay for it if it were me
