I’m getting a rattling noise that is loudest in the 2500-3000 rpm range. Car has never had an issue until now. I saw one video online saying possible cam follower for the fuel pump? Just seeing if anyone else thinks that could be it or knows another possibility. Car has 115k miles

Yeah a sound vid would help. Could be many things yet a fuel pump does not 'rattle'.

Could be as simple as a loose heat shield, start checking yourself and report back.

We would need to hear it in a recording to help, along with maybe some type of say as to the direction or area of the sound relative to the engine.
so the sound is coming from the passenger side of the engine and the engine stalled one of the times I brought the RPMs up. Gave me the P0011 code over-advanced cam position timing-bank 1. I will be uploading a video now to capture the noise

Hmm others will chime in yet looking up that code, i find it suggests to change oil/filter First, saying 75% of P0011 CELs are solved that way. Next is check wiring to sensor, maybe that should be first?

Hopefully that’s it. I’m nervous to keep driving it so I’m going to take the valve cover off to take a look around but if it all looks good that will probably be my next step. Checked the cam follower for fuel pump and that’s in good shape

Update: Can’t see any damage or anything out of order with just the valve cover off. Did notice there is no gasket between the fuel pump and the valve cover. Another note, I removed the camshaft oil solenoid and there was very fine metal shavings (looked like glitter) gathered on it. Not a ton of it but definitely worth noting. I tested the resistance of it with a multimeter and it was 7.6-7.8. Might replace it anyway but that is what I’ve been reading as normal. Starting to think maybe just dirty oil? I think it’s been about 7-8k miles since the oil was last changed. Engine has 115k miles and is a 2011. Is there anything else specifically I could check under the valve cover? My thoughts are to either tow it to a shop or get new gaskets, solenoid, and put it all together and oil/filter change.

If you want these value priced vehicle engines to last, change that oil with synthetic every 3k.

Last update sadly. Engine blew going 10 miles down the road. Before it happened I inspected everything under the valve cover(all in good shape) then replaced the gaskets, camshaft oil solenoid, then did oil and filter change. Can’t get a good view of the engine but I could see a crank bearing and pieces of the block sitting on the undercarriage of the car. Had no check engine light and the engine wasn’t making the noise at the RPM I was at. Thanks all for your replies though. Thank you for taking the time out of your day :)

They will perform a rod bearing clearance test, partially disassemble the engine & check for "neglect" (oil starvation & sludge). If you're recalls & KSDS update was completed you should be good to go & get a new engine.
