Hopefully this can help anyone that wants to install an aftermarket GPS for their Optima. Ebay has many "China" Units and they all are almost the same minus a few features/interface/sound output specs.
This is the one I bought and installed. But keep in mind the design/installation of the unit is pretty standard among the available Ebay units.
8" Stereo Radio Car DVD Player GPS SD for Kia K5 Optima Magentis Lotze 2011 2012 | eBay
There is already a thread about taking the stock head unit out but I will just refresh people. I also Did a backup camera that I will be switching to an OEM camera because the universal hanging type doesn't work well with the Optima factory location (aims way too low). And while running the camera wire to the trunk I also ran a sub wire for future use.
All pictures are from my Galaxy Nexus phone. Sorry in advance I couldn't find my 16mp Sony Digital Camera at the time. lol
Tools Needed :
Patience
Philips Screwdriver
Zip Ties
Trim Removal Tools (pictured below) Highly recommended
Step 1 : Use trim tools to remove the surround covering the head unit/dash mounting points.
These are all just clipped into place. Start from the bottom and work your way to the top. Keep in mind that force IS needed for removal. Don't be too forceful but stern.
Step 2 : Remove Mounting Screws that are exposed at this point. ( These are all the same type of screw )
Step 3 : Remove Cover ( Just Push Clipped In Place ) and Mounting Screws from Dash
Step 4 : Remove the 2 screws holding the trim Below the steering wheel in place. ( One on each side of the wheel, Only took picture of one side sorry)
Now Pull this piece out. It will now only be held in with the push clips. You need to do this to access the next steps screw. If you pull on the right side toward the start/push button it will all pop off at one time.
Step 5 : Remove the One screw that holds the left of steering wheel trim.
Once this screw is removed you can now use the trim tool to take this piece off.
Step 6 : Disconnect Push/Start Button. Remove the now visible screws.
