Daughter's 2019 Optima 2.4 OIL BURNER

My daughter's 2019 KIA Optima 2.4 is using oil badly. I service her car because the dealer always cobs up the job. I changed her oil 1 month ago and I checked her oil today and it barely showed on the dipstick. The car doesn't leak oil and it appears to not be burning oil either.

Has anyone figured out what is causing this problem with KIA 2.4?

That oil has to be going somewhere

They are junk engines. The 2019 probably had the KSDS update installed before delivery, but make certain it has been done and just drive the car, keep the oil in the safe area and hope for the best as when/if the engine seizes you'll get a free replacement. Mine was using a qt p/325 miles and Kia did replace the engine due to excessive oil consumption back in 2019, but since have taken a different stance.

Having said that, you didn't state the mileage driven in a month, but if the consumption is around 500 miles p/qt, might want to take it to the dealer, but they may go through some cylinder cleaning and whatnot to try and correct the condition, waste of time.

Its amazing all that oil burning is not fouling the cat and not throwing an emissions cel.

yea if engines are burning a lot of oil, it would probably be a good idea to replace spark plugs if they haven't been for a while to try and burn more off to save the cat.
That's the thing. It isn't burning or leaking oil. Exhaust is normal as it should be. To use that much oil you would notice it burning the oil.
Pepi that's crazy lol.....where's it all going?

KIA has a wireless setup that send the oil to their refinery and the oil is recycled into KIA brand oil.

Cars equipoed with catalytic converter(s) you"ll not notice any oil burning/blue smoke.
Yup tis true you wont know your cat is getting poisoned till you throw a code.

@Pepi How many miles on the 2019?? and at what point did the oil usage start? My daughter is in a 2020 Optima (2.4L) with 62k and consumption hasn't started yet but a matter of time.
86,000 miles. Just started it since the last oil change. I use good 5w 20 synthetic oil and a KIA oil filter. My 2020 only has 17,000k on it and it doesn't use any oil ... YET?
Its the luck of the draw - really on all brands I read about - some good engines end up oil burners, some bad engines do not, case in point mine - at 213k and only uses a few ounces per 3k oci, can't even see the difference on the dipstick from start to finish of oci.

Mine burns a qt every 1000 miles. Ironically it started when I took it to the dealer for the battery killing the starter. It was at over 92k. Have you changed the pcv valve and the oil sensor under the intake manifold. I maintain it religiously. Also switch to 5w-30.

Ps don’t waste your time complaining to Kia. I filed a complaint and went up the chain. They say it’s normal and don’t want to fix the problem. The best advice I can give you is if you see something that is a deal (probably not in this economy right now) trade out of it.

Mine does the same thing, I started following this guy on YouTube, called straight Outta Contant and it helped me follow his steps for a new engine replacement. I change the PCV valve, which is only $35 and very easy to do. There is a recall on those engines and because of that guy my engine is insured for 989,000 miles or until it breaks down and that’s when they’ll replace my engine

I change my own as well. I'm full synthetic plus the Kia filter also. I'm thinking of moving mine a long while the getting is good. I'm second owner so I'm riding the line already on my $$$ if it blows! Good luck!!
It looks like the oil control piston rings stick in the ring lands due to carbon deposits. My '12 SX used several qts between OCIs and I never saw any smoke. I spun a rod bearing last year and KIA gave me a new motor. The new motor has 15K miles and doesn't burn oil - yet. I change it every 3-4K with full synthetic and premium filter. I also have a pcv line oil catch can and run a decarboning chemical prior to OCIs. The original owner had it serviced at the dealer. Hopefully this motor will last at least 122K like the last one did!

I once forgot to tighten the oil pan plug and lost a small amount of oil over time. Could you review this and rule out this problem
I didn't see a word about "Chevron Techron Complete Fuel System Cleaner" in this thread. I used to see black carbon liquid coming out the exhausts. I believe that's been reduced significantly since I started using the Chevron product. On top of that, my MPG has increased around 3-4 MPG. It's an inexpensive product to try.

Sorry to say, impossible.
