So I have been using usa spec 5w40 oil in my 2016 two litre turbo engine for nearly 100k miles. Engine runs well and have no oil loss between intervals. Ran into a dilemma recently because I normally buy 4 to 6 jugs of it at a time when it goes on sale. I am only seeing 5w40 euro spec on the shelves for last few months. Can anyone verify whether this oil is ok to use? Or should I go with the 5w30 usa spec? Thanks in advance for your help. Pics are from my owners manual.

I use euro spec oil all the time, its actually a better oil according to BITOG folks so u should have no issues at all. Just change it regularly.

Use any oil you want, as long as it's in spec and keep your fingers crossed as maintenance,
oil type, viscosity, has absolutely no bearing on engine longevity, just luck of the draw.

The manual states acea 5 and above. Euro spec 5w40 is acea a3/b4.

I just realized that even the USA spec 5w40 I was using was a3/b4 as well. I found an article from BITOG where someone posed the same question and here was the answer:
There are no 5w40 a5 classification...
A5/B5 has a HTHS viscosity limited to no more than 3.5. That's too low for a 40 grade. Well, technically a 40 grade can be lower than that, but I've never seen it. Most of the light 40 grades are 3.6-3.7 HTHS. A3/B4 and A5/B5 must pass the exact same wear, deposit, oxidation, etc tests.

The 5 is a lower viscosity for fuel mileage savings. The ACEA is a completely different standard than API. Its too complex to explain here but you can google it. A3B4 is a thicker oil and is not like the API classifications.

True. Only 10K miles on the warranty motor so far. So far so good...

FWIW..... TSB 076 Sept 2015 (For Turbo engines) specifically OK's A3 in 5W30 -- 5W40
Recommendation: ACEA A5 or above
Allowed Oil Grade: API SL, SM or above ..... "ACEA A3, A5 or above .... ILSAC GHF-3, GF-4 or above .....

FWIW..... TSB 076 Sept 2015 (For Turbo engines) specifically OK's A3 in 5W30 -- 5W40
Recommendation: ACEA A5 or above

Our turbos require extreme use maintenance schedules. I use the same oil in my warranty 2.0T long block replacement. Changed every 4K and running a pcv catch can. It may still blow up, but if I got a good one I'll make it last!
