Hey all.. I am the new owner of a 2015 Optima EX with standard audio (no nav, no premium sound). System is OK, nothing special. As with every other car I have owned, I plan on replacing pretty much every component of the audio system. I like to have good sound and good clarity with a bit of low end to fill it out, something OEM systems rarely provide, this is no exception). Apologies for some of these random noob questions, but I have never had a system with more than 4 speakers (well, tweeters in the door stem, but that's a different animal). The bulk of my questions are these...
1. Going on Crutchfield, it shows precisely ONE (1) set of speakers that will fit the front dash. Those are $400 EACH (clearly, I would never spend that much, this isn't a competition stereo). I saw the video here that shows that a decent set of 3.5" speakers will fit in that space, even though the OEM's look to be 2.75". Will any 3.5" speakers work there? Or should I look to find 2.75" speakers? (Sorry for these questions, but there is not much info out there regarding the dash speakers it seems, and I am pretty good with Google-Fu).
2. Assuming I can use 3.5" speakers there, how exactly are those speakers driven? Inline with the front door speakers, or completely separate? If i was to get an aftermarket HU, would i even be able to control those speakers? (lets say i get a HU with a 6 channel preamp outs AND a sub preamp out). Could the dash speakers be part of that 6 channel preamp out setup?
3. I don't really need to have a huge amp for the door speakers, just one to comfortably turn the volume up with clarity, so I can assume I can use something as simple as a power pack type amp? (Since they are typically only 4 channel, I further assume it would not amplify the dash speakers?)
4. To round out the bass, i would clearly need a sub. I actually have a very large one (Sound Ordinance B-24, dual 12" box) with a SO amp to go along with it that i took out of my last car, still in perfect running condition. However, that thing is HUGGGGE and i really don't need THAT much bass, so I am wondering if something like a bass tube would work for me, and if so, should that also go in the trunk? Not sure where else it could go to be honest.
Any help that someone could give would be greatly appreciated. Just looking to get some thoughts. I have a HU and door speakers already in mind, so that's why i didnt touch on those as much. My questions mainly focuses on the things I don't know about yet. (and before anyone asks, I will not be installing any of this myself..
)
Thanks!
