I have '12 Optima and the AC system has leaked down. I have replaced system components before, used a vacuum pump, re-pressurized systems, etc. But only a shade tree mechanic.
I bought a tool that lets you replace schrader valves in the AC pressure ports under pressure, and it works well usually....but now the Kia sized valves are too large for the inside diameter of the tool, and they fail to come out. Carefully listening I can hear them falling off the magnet.

Is there a bigger kia sized tool? Has anyone found a solution? I am actually thinking of just having my dealer do this although I don't usually use them for anything!

This is the tool I'm using and have used before. It has ball valves and a chamber that lets you remove the valve under pressure.

While my professional mechanic buddy would agree they are troublesome, in my opinion they do not all leak. I have had cars for years that didn't require any ac maintenance and I was living in Texas where you use it nearly every day. So they do last but when there's a leak, chances are check that first. Those caps are not designed to hold 200psi, they have a seal to keep dirt out which is bad in an AC system. Anyway, thanks for note. I got the kit in the mail and perhaps tomorrow will use it to replace the valves. They make the kit for a reason as they are a failure point. I'll post the results!
