Hey just bear a few tips in mind befor you remove that A pillar. There is an airbag behind that pillar so just be careful when installing. I installed my gauge pods on the "A" pillar but before I removed the pillar I disconnected the NEGATIVE terminal of the battery first. There is a safety concern for installing things on the "A" pillar. But it's up to you as a driver.

To as frenzy mentioned there is an airbag there. If you are just running wires you can pop the top out and not have to remove anything. Run your wire and push it back in place.

You can insert a smooth tool where the red circle is to pry it open. (butter knife)

There is a blue Christmas tree retainer clip that needs to go back. When I piped my a pillar out it stuck to the pillar so I had to be creative to get the clip out an back on the plastic then push it all back in place

yes I see this thing and looked on Kia tech site and it appears you have to use a "y" tool to unscrew it! Looks like a real pain. Will try later. Lucky I have appointment with dealer next week so if any of this gets messed up I'll request a fix. Hope not though!

I just used needle nose pliers and pulled it straight out... Had a y tool but made things so difficult lol

Well I came up with a better idea. I will power this with the vanity light so as not to get further involved with the a pillar. If I can get the pillar back with out hassle I will, otherwise I will have dealer do it when I go in this week for check engine light issue with my transmission.

What a pain.....sorry I started

Just thought I'd add a note here for those who search later, as I did this morning.

Taking the pillar off was actually pretty easy on my 2013 Optima SX, once I figured out how to do it.

First, of course, you need to pull the weather stripping away from the door sill to make some room for the pillar to come out.
Then you just pry a little bit until it pops out enough that you can see the two blue retaining ("Christmas Tree") clips. Those come out, albeit not easily, with a trim removal tool. If you aren't very careful, you'll pull the pillar away from the clip and the clip will stay in the car. This is fine.

Once you have those two clips out, or at least have the pillar separated from them, there's still another clip up top you have to deal with. You'll notice it has a lot of slack in it. Get needle noise pliers and turn the clip 90 degrees and it will pop right out of the pillar. Then it's easy to pull the pillar off.

If the blue clips are still in the car, you'll need to get them out with the trim removal tool and reattach them to the pillar.

Once you're finished with your wiring, put the pillar back in place, starting with the tabs toward the windshield. Once those are in the right slot, rotate the clip up, and reattach the 90 degree clip using needle nose pliers again. Line up the blue clips to the correct holes and bang the pillar with the palm of your hand and they'll go right in.

Much of this has already been said, of course, but I haven't seen anyone mention that 90 degree clip, so I'm thinking it might be new on the 2013s.

Like I said, just wanted to add this so that if someone searches in the future they might have a little more information.

Thanks for the 90 clip "tip". I have a 2015 and I could not figure out how to get that top clip out! When you say, "Turn the clip 90 degrees", I need some clarity:

Turn at the metal side or the plastic side? And 90 degrees in rotation up or down?

Thanks.
