Good morning all - On my way to work this AM, I got a "Hybrid System Warning, please pull over and turn the car off" dash warning. I pulled over at the nearest gas station. I was low on fuel so I decided to refuel while the car was shut off for a few minutes. After about 5 minutes, I proceeded on my daily route to work. I did not have any issues with my 25-mile commute. Has anyone seen or has any info on this warning? Thanks.

I have a 2013 and am experiencing the following. On 3 separate occasions the hybrid battery has completely discharged at highway speeds causing the car to lose all engine function. I have had to coast the car to the side of the road and try not to get in an accident. We are getting 2 messages when this starts. This first warning says to pull over and put the car in park. The second warning says to not drive the vehicle. The first time this happened I called a tow truck and had the vehicle towed to the dealership. The dealership could not "recreate" the issue and told us there was nothing they could do so we needed to pick up the car. The car drove fine for 1 day and then the issues started happening the next day again.

The second time this happened my husband was with me and we were in a semi-remote area so the tow truck had a 2 hour wait in the dark. After about 45 min of waiting we pushed the start button and let the car sit...magically it started charging the battery again so we were able to drive it home. The next day my husband drove it back to the dealership where the problem occurred several times on the way there but he never pulled over just coasted and after about a 60 second delay the car started charging the battery again. We had taken pictures of the warnings on the dash board the night before and provided them to the dealership but again they could not get the car to recreate the issue so they "have nothing to fix".

When the above issue occurs the car has also repeatedly drained the hybrid battery and then started recharging itself after about 30 second delay. When this has happened the car hesitates when stopped and trying to accelerate.

I am not sure what to do. The dealership won't start replacing any parts and they have no idea what is wrong. They claim that Kia corporate does not have any history of this issue happening but I have read several reports online of similar issues from other people. I don't want to keep getting stranded on the highway....I drive a minimum of 60 miles a day and most of them are in the dark this time of year!

I had this issue few years back for few months. I have taken pic and video to show it to the service guys. It happened occasionally but long story short it went away. I'm looking at 2018 plug in hybrid to replace its really heavily discounted.

It’s probably going to be as great as the hybrid. My buddy has over 100K on his 2012 and has no issues with the hybrid system. Now while we have hybrids, we don’t always drive them efficiently, him more so than I. His car is driven hard, it doesn’t behave like a hybrid. I was thinking about the plugin but there wasn’t any around my area when I was in the market. After driving the 2017 hybrid, I liked it so much I got one. I like that it gives great economy when driven normally and has enough power to be driven hard and handles quite well when pushed. The standard tires could use a bit more grip but I have to say they are better than I initially thought for my version of hard driving.

Sports mode is the most fun and sets the transmission to perform sporty with downshift like any car with a sport mode. The plugin is a bit heavy but also has a bit more power. If you are like me and want to have a bit of fun on your drive when not driving for the best economy, it should make for a great choice.

Good evening,

I recently had a similar issue. My car died at an intersection after the HCS warning light came on. It would not start and they had to tow it to the nearest KIA dealer (not my normal dealer). They spent 4 hours testing, kept the vehicle overnight, and opened a techline case regarding this. Here was the result:

Techline recommended replacing the 125 amp fuse in the hybrid safety plug with a 150 amp fuse.
I agreed to the repair because I needed to have my care back (it had been a week). I contacted KIA Consumer Affairs by phone and by web form. In my opinion replacing the weak link in an electrical system with a stronger link has the potential to move the problem elsewhere in the system. I was contacted this evening by consumer affairs and after 3 separate conversations, I finally spoke to someone who had dealt with a similar issue, same part number. It seems that KIA issued a Technical Support Bulletin #TSB-PS-515 regarding this. She stated that they thought that the 125 amp fuse would be adequate but after several customer complaints they had determined that the fuse needed to be upgraded to 150 amp. The part # for the new fuse is 375f2-4r150.

I asked why I was required to pay $417 to replace a fuse they know is not the right size and was told that I could submit a request for reimbursement and I would have a decision back in 7 days and a possible reimbursement back in 30-90 days if they approve it. I am going to my KIA dealer tomorrow to get a copy of the TSB as well as pull the parts diagram for the Hybrid Safety Plug and see if it calls for a 125 amp or 150 amp fuse. I also filed a complaint with the National Highway Safety Admin.

Who did you buy through? I had my 15 optima hybrid in the shop at KIA a few weeks ago and they replaced a fuse, but today I started getting the hybrid warning again. I purchased through CarMax & they are closed right now but gave me a website to find repair shops they use during this.

See if the dealership has a home office/customer service number, that’s how I got an answer on what to do. I was worried I would have to wait until this all blew over. I hope you can get in touch with someone!

Hey, I had the same issue two months back at 105k, took it to the dealer they did a software update, the car was fine after that, I have done 1k miles after that no issues.
They said after certain amount of miles the system gets confused so have to do a software update.

A week after I posted on here i found out the Kia dealership reopened but they were sending their customers next door to the Honda dealership (same owners). I was dealing with a different service advisor than usual and I explained to her that my car was jerking and losing power after roughly 15mins of driving it at 60kms/hr and the HSW light came on telling me not to drive the car. The next day she called me and told me the tech said it's the headlight ballast drawing power which didnt make sense to me so I told her dont change it and she said she'd call a "Hyundai Specialist Tech" to check it out.. they had my car for about 2 weeks and she finally called me and told me It needed 3 software updates and that should fix the problem, it cost me just under $900 (this includes $250 in diag.) ! They valet my car back to me and I didnt drive it till the next day and the same thing happened! Lost power after 15mins same light came on so I ended up having to get the car towed back to the dealer, by then the Kia was open for full service. She called me the next day apologizing and I told her it's fine fix my **** car. A few days later my usual SA called me and told me it's my tranny and it'll be 10k but they're not charging me for diag.

I dont know how confident they are that this is the actual issue and I dont have that kind of money plus I still owe 6k on the car for payments. I told them I want my money back for the software updates and they won't give it back. So now I'm stuck with this car and its payments( which is basically all bs expired ext. Warranty).

Never buying a Kia again.

In my case the same warning has come up over the last year 4 times. I just turned it off then back on again. Finally on the fifth time a chack engine light came on. I left the car on while I ran and grabbed a code reader. I got P0705 if I remember correctly (maybe P0704) it stated it was the indicator switch $650cad after the dealer fixed it and no problems for a week now. I'll update if it comes back.

Have been having this issue every cold day for the last 2-3 years. Did you every find the issue or fix? Seems like it mainly happens when temperature is below 30 degrees.
