2013 Kia Optima Hybrid-- Engine Revving after fix and other warranty fixes...

265 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  marbear
My Kia has 120,000 miles on it. The transmission was replaced before 100,000 . The HPCU Reservoir Modul was replaced with Kia paying half and I having to pay half since it was 3,000 over warranty (103,000) 12V battery is new but the Engine keeps revving shortly after start when the car is not in gear. I have not looked at dash to get revving numbers but it is not high, just very noticable while car is idling. I took the car in and they charged 500.00 and changed the Sensor Assy-Pressure after finding PO456. This has not stopped the revving.
I do not trust my dealer. They tell me it is under warranty, the are busy, cannot do the work.... In addition, the AC is now blowing hot air after having the AC charged 12 months ago. Right before the HPCU went out 2 summers ago... the AC quit working....could it be related?
My son, 17 now drives car to school etc. I am concerned.
Anyone else having problems with this revving after attempts to fix.
Thanks to any and all responses regarding this model and what I can do.... along with find another mechanic... I am in HOT SOCAL and need the AC! As well as do not want my son stranded with engine problems.... Please help.

My Kia Optima Hybrid just suddenly stopped…. Total engine failure with no warning, while driving. HUGE safety hazard as we had just been on the dangerous stretch of hwy 50 to Tahoe. Kia dealer says it’s ;at the very least) the HPCU and we have to pay $6700 to replace . And only then can they diagnose what else may be wrong. WTH?! I’m supposed to pay $6700 to figure out what else is wrong, then pay for that as well. That’s insane. This car is only 8 years old. Very very frustrated.

The HPCU is the thing that controls the engine and yes mine was over $6000. I called Kia customer care and they paid half of it. They are located in Irvine California. They were not easy to deal with but in the long run, they at least paid $3000. No one tells you about this HPCU unit that can go out. It controls the engine and hybrids. Everyone’s afraid of the expensive battery but they never hear about this part. After saving a lot of money on gas at 104,000 miles. I ended up with this huge bill. Call Kia customer care and request a financial help with this bill. I’m not sure hybrids are worth at this point in addition to the HPCU having to be replaced after that again my car is still revving. I had the transmission replaced and they had to replace the 12 V battery. good luck
you all are having about the same luck i am having. took my 2014 lx hybrid into dealer back in january for a backordered EV battery pack with BMU and PRA quoted $6k+ to fix it, finally went to dealer to pick it up, of course they wanted to charge me up the wazoo for restock fees of the parts they already aquired plus the initial diagnosis fees restock was over $350 alone, I asked service writer,"knowing the battery pack was on national backorder why would you put the cart before the horse and order the other parts if you can't even get the battery?!" anyway talked to general manager and got my money back. Anyhoo here is the issue: HEV light famous park stop take to dealer blah, blah, blah. replaced battery unit with a reman and warranty on it, battery received with good charge included BMU/PRA, i replaced also HSG/ISG cable about$268 for cable $1800 battery pack, HSG $750 from south korea new 12 volt auto battery H=6 $209, and the HPCU from a 72,000 mile donor car with rear body damage funny the dealer told me they would fix it for$6k and I did every thing they were going to do and then some and same result HEV light and alarms on battery light on and amber hev lamp on, I don't think any of these so called kia techs know anything about troubleshooting, 1st hybrid I have ever owned and will be the last and still have the issue, i don't know where to go with this and kia customer service won't even talk to me even though the car only had 72.000 on it, I own 5 kia's next year I will own zero!!! but i still gotta get this one figured out i have to much invested in it, any help would be greatly appreciated....thanx...Sam

Well I am going full bulldog with Kia tomorrow. I have tried to call corporate to no avail. the 2014 had a total engine recall if I am remembering correctly from my significant research. There was also a class action lawsuit on May 5 and I thiink you have to sign on as a class member by June 7th. They are not giving much time or making things easy. This will definitely be the last hybrid I own. The dealerships are given like a step by step online how to fix but it appears even the mechanics are not well versed in the complicated engine fixes. The significant cost to repair definitely do not make any "gas savings" worth it. My car is only 8 years old so this extremely frustrating. I'll update with anything I find out. But the more that people talk about these issues the more they are pressured to have a recall to fix. I did read that they were extending the warranty from 100,000 to 150,000 though I think you have to jump through hoops to make that happen.
