I need to purchase an engine for a 2012 Optima SX 2.0 turbo GDI and I found a 2015 Optima 2.0 turbo GDI engine with 55,000 miles and need to know the comparability with the 2 engines. Will I have to purchase anything additional to make this engine work in my 2012?

The years of the engines are the same 11-15 I believe except us and korea build. There is a recall on them so you may be able to get it swapped free though.

I got mine swapped free just enter the vin and see if your engine has the recall and take it to Kia and they will swap it free

As stated above, depending on the problem with the OEM engine, it may qualify for a free engine replacement.
The vehicle needs to have the recall and updates completed, and problem must be bearing related, e.g, rod knock
seized, etc with CEL P1326 code.

As far as a used engine, according to the book, '11-'15 will work.
