Hey kids! So for all of us super stoked folks who love our new optima a bit too much.....i might be a tinge bit nervous about the fact that there isn't a locking gas cap available for the 2019 optima?? Any suggestions? Thanks! PS. I love my car!!
  2. 3rd Generation Optima (2011 - 2015)
Hi, everyone. I've just bought my 2019 Kia Optima Ex with the 1.6L turbo engine. It's rated 27/37mpg. So far, with about 300 miles on the odometer, half of which is highway, I'm averaging 30mpg. Driving with the sunroof open is probably making things worse. I hadn't seen any recent posts about...
  3. The Service Center
Hi, Hoping someone may be able to help with an issue having with our 2013 Kia Optima EX. Gas gauge quit working and threw a check engine light saying the fuel level sending unit was the issue. Took a look in the trunk to find out something chewed through a wire and it was missing a section and...

Does anyone here know *officially* approximately how much fuel is (supposed to be) remaining once the low fuel light/warning comes on? I ask because IMHO I think Kia programmed it to be a bit conservative as to how much fuel is remaining once the warning appears--in my case, the low fuel light...

So I bought this 2014 Kia Optima about a month ago. I notice that the gas cap doesn't click when I tighten it. I've had the check engine light come on after getting gas twice. It goes away fairly quickly though. Should I get a new cap? Is there a recommendation on what I should buy? Thanks.
  6. Hybrids
Hi So I was wondering the other day I’m filling up and I was wondering way did it take so much time for the door to open. Vs my old hybrid only So I checked in the manual and it says the gas tank is pressurized I could take a bit of time to open it’s only 3 seconds or so but I was just...

Hey everyone, my name is Dan and I'm the owner of a 2015 Hyundai Sonata Limited 2.0. I recently traded in my 2011 Kia Optima SX for my a 2015 Sonata and I'm starting to feel like I made a mistake. I should start out by saying that when I first saw the new 2011 optimas, I fell in love...
  8. 4th Generation Optima (2016 - 2020)
Hi, I have a 2016 Kia Optima LX+ (2.4L) and recently filled a couple of tanks of premium 91 fuel from different stations and was blown away with the results. I always thought that premium fuels were a waste of money, however now I'm starting to question this. With Regular 87 I get: (from...
  9. 3rd Generation Optima (2011 - 2015)
Hi everyone, just was curious if anyone else has experienced this. I drive a 2014 Optima EX with the 2.4L engine and do a mixture of highway and city driving. My car has 78K miles on it and only maintenance I have done to it are oil changes, front brakes, 4 new tires, coolant, basically have...
  10. 3rd Generation Optima (2011 - 2015)
I bought my 2013 SX GDI Turbo a little over a year ago with 16k miles on it. At that time I was averaging around 26-27 mpg city, 30-32 highway. A couple of months ago my mileage dropped quite a bit to where I can't even hit 23 mpg now. I tried cleaning the throttle body cleaner with crc...
  11. 3rd Generation Optima (2011 - 2015)
With my 2015 SX-L the warning light would come on when the display said there was about 30 miles or so predicted to be left and then that estimation would go away and not show any numbers anymore. If I went 30 or so miles though and then fill up I could put in about the full capacity minus about...
  12. 4th Generation Optima (2016 - 2020)
So filled up my gas tank tonight, Now I have been told NOT to top off, but tonight I did, just to see how much I could get in there. I got back in and the "range" was 517 miles!Anyone else ever seen that? Why should you not top off your tank? Just curious random questions. Woody

Just noticed this happening over the past week or so. Now it appears I'm no longer getting cold air, just cool air. It sounds like a compressed gas canister being filled. I've read in some places that it's a leak in the ac system, or it may need recharging, or it may be bad evaporator. Any help...
  14. The Service Center
Just wondering if anyone knows the exact level the fuel is at when it set off the low gas light in the 2016 Kia Optima SX Last time I filled it was so close to the red line, but still didnt set off the low fuel alert. I filled up in it only took about 13 gallons, that means nearly at the red...
  15. Hybrids
2 Fold question. Is 3,000 miles+/- still the recommended interval for oil changes on the hybrids? And is there any gauge or display that records and displays how many less miles or hours are on the gas engine because of the Hybrid? In my head , I'm convinced that the engine has to be less...

So... I opened my car door to find a wire and a fuse just hanging out... I have no idea what it is or where it connects to. I didn't touch anything down there either. Everything seems to be fine with the car as far as I can tell, but I have not tested anything yet. Could somebody please identify...
  17. Engine and Technical Discussion
Too often but not every time I hear a whrrring sound in the area of the gas cap for about a second - sometimes a little screech at the end - and two service writers have opined that (1) it's the fuel pump fan and OK, and (2) its air pressure escaping and OK. Any thoughts on what it may be are...
  18. 4th Generation Optima (2016 - 2020)
I guess I'm most interested in what others are getting with the 2.0-liter turbo, since that's what I've got, but those with other engines may feel free to join in ... just be sure and tell us which engine you have. At about 2,000 miles on my car, I'm now getting about 21.5mpg IN TOWN, with...
  19. 3rd Generation Optima (2011 - 2015)
My wife and I bought 2 new EX's in 2013. The only difference was that hers had the Nav and Electronic packages (sunroof, rear camera, etc). At 68k miles I gave mine to my daughter. I took my wife's with 24k miles. I drive the exact same 92miles 5 days per week. My EX got 34 mpg every tank, every...
