Strut differences for USA vs Korean VINs?

My 2012 Kia has a USA VIN since is starts with 5XXGR. But the struts I ordered for a USA optima did not fit my car, see this photo you can see the strut mount bracket on the new strut does not match my OEM strut. So can someone tell me does my OEM strut looks like a USA or a Korean Optima?

    Thank you,

Take a look at the 7th to last digit of your VIN.

If it starts with a 5, then it was made in Korea, and if it starts with a G, then it was made in Georgia.

The Korean version has a different orientation on the endlink, so it would not fit your vehicle if you ordered US struts.

thanks, that digit is "G" and the struts I order claim to be for USA optimas. based on the photo which end link mount is for USA? the one with the mount closes to the sprint perch? or the brand new strut shown with the mount lower on the body?

    You're welcome.

If that digit is a "G" then that would indicate that you have a model built in the US in Georgia.

I was away yesterday, but did want to reply, my 2.0T Korean has the end link mount up close to the coil spring seat. Actuallt driver's side door jam reads manufactured in Korea.

If it's only the end link mount that is different, install the struts then order the correct end links for the new units.

    Found this on the forum:

FYI the new struts in the photo above that are advertised for USA made Optimas are from ebay: Sensen, Speedy Strut from apxautoparts

I haven't tried out any Korean made ones because I can't get anyone to send me a pic of an actual Korea strut so I can be sure it would fit my car.
