Where should the coolant temp gauge sit?

I thought the coolant temp gauge suppose be in the dead center, but on my new car it has always been a little off the center (to the left).

In the VW I previously drove, the only time it looked like that was when the thermostat was leaking.

Is this the normal position for Kia Optima? Thanks.

I'm attaching the photo for illustration.

Which engine? If it's the 2.4 GDI, then that's exactly where mine sits. Car seems to heat up very quickly, and also cool down quite fast. Must be all that aluminum in the engine.

My 2.0 has a different gauge cluster but it too has always been a little to the cool side of the middle even in 100+ deg days this summer. If it ever got to the middle, I'd be concerned.

Perfectly normal. I have the SX, so it looks a bit different, but it's still just off center. According to my dashhawk, it fluctuates between 189°F and 199°F during normal operation.
