I don’t think anyone have this discussion yet, what is our life expectancy of our starters? I think it’s PITA to replace it too.

The starter on the '11 is the same as the one on our '08 and that car is 11 years old, 295,000 miles and still has the original starter.

Mine went out after 6 years, it also depends on how many times you start a day.

Don't get too excited as the over on the Hyundai forum there seems to be a problem with the lever breaking (same part as Kia), but really haven't seen any problems with the Kia.
No other way to start the car w/o using the starter, other than leaving the car running. Starter is buried, but if it should go try and wack it with a rod/hammer to see if you can get the car started to get it home or to the repair shop. Normally there might be once or twice that after one hears the started malfunction, you'll be able to start the car, then nothing. Sometimes one can keep trying to start and might get lucky and it will catch.

There was a fellow I worked with years ago, and he was the only one I ever knew that would do preventative maintenance as he'd replace/rebuild the alternator and starter before they went bad.

My starter when out with the car about 2yrs old. Starters are basic devices so they can fail. Had it replaced under warranty and zero starter issues since.
