Interesting. My issue is primarily on the fold up. If I assist ever so gently is goes in. I’m convinced it’s the internal gears. Is yours the passenger side as well?

After re-reading your post I do want to clarify my particular issue though. I do think both yours and my issue is related, but I've never had problems with the mirrors folding up when I lock the car. My passenger side sometimes doesn't unfold when I unlock and drive off. Huge safety issue since I wouldn't be able to see passenger side vehicles. Doesn't happen often enough for me to mentally remember to check the mirrors every time I drive. Whenever it does happen though, I can fix it by double clicking the fold/unfold button on my driver door. Still annoying AF tho lol.

    I have...but, thanks.

Do you have any idea how hard it would be to take the cover off the assembly to paint?

Based on my backyard mechanic understanding, if it's folding up with a push assist, it sounds like it can be resolved with replacing the motor/gears. As for my issue, it's only on the passenger side. I've never caught it in the process of unfolding, only after I'm driving off lol. So I'm uncertain if it struggled to unfold and stopped, or if it just never opened to begin with.

Also if you're going to buy a new part and painting it yourself, I think it'll be incredibly difficult to get a factory match. You could either paint both sides so that they at least match each other, or K5OS has some nice carbon fiber covers you can just stick on.
