Switchback LEDs for turn signals, solution to hyperblink problem!!!

OK, so I am new to the forums, and this is my first post, but had to be done. I was researching everything to get the switchback LEDs for my front turn signals (my rear is LED already on the SX). I have a lease, so I cannot mod my sled too much or there could be issues. I want to outline the options briefly as I think many people are facing this issue.

Switchback LEDs are lights that will fit into the 1157 Optima socket and that will generate bright white light in parking light/DRL mode, and then when the turn signal is activated they will generate flashing amber light. At issue is the fact that LEDs do not have the same electrical impedance as traditional bulbs, and this means there will be a mismatch of the car's circuitry and the LED. This results in "hyperflash", meaning that the light will flash very quickly, which most find annoying and indicative of a low quality car mod. Here are your choices as I have found:

1) Install the Switchback LEDs (about $40 a pair on ebay or other websites), and just sit back and enjoy the seizure inducing hyperblink

2) Install the Switchback LEDs, and also install the load resistors (on on each harness). Load resistors will adjust the electrical impedance so that as far as your car's circuitry is concerned, the LEDs are identical to the bulbs. The way to connect the resistor is to A) cut the wires and splice (messy and possibly voiding some contracts/leases idk), B) use a "t-tap" which is a clip that makes a very small cut in the wire but is very clean and precise compared to actually cutting things up, and C) purchasing an in-line resistor circuit (these are relatively new to the market).

This last option is the reason I made this post. I was really hesitating to use the t-taps and do something that may upset the lease gods, and this last option is very good for those who want "plug and play". I found these on ijdmtoy.com:

http://store.ijdmtoy.com/1157-LED-Hy...s-p/aa1051.htm

This means you can plug it in to your harness, then plug LED into it, and you are all done. I will buy this today and likely get my LEDs from them too to save a little on shipping, plus I heard they are brighter than most.

One note: Load resistors are like brakes for electrons, they slow them down, and just like breaks on cars, they get hot the more they work. If you run your hazards a lot or tend to leave a turn signal on for a long time, be sure to mount these away from anything that might be temperature sensitive. If you can mount them on a steel support or any metal, that will help as a heat sink and draw off the heat, which will protect everything from your car's circuits to the surrounding plastics, etc.

Hope this helps, will update when I get the install done. peace

just got my set of 1157 switchbacks and the "decoder" lol circuit, i.e. a resistor in a box from ijdmtoy, and this weekend is a sale for 15% off, lucky me . will post my results in about 2 weeks.

Update...I stated that the rear is already LED, but that is the tail light, I saw today that the amber turn signal is a normal 1157 bulb. Is there anyway to get a red/amber switchback LED in there that glows red and that changes to amber for turn signal? I have found some online, but not sure that the wiring would allow for this. Any ideas?

Wondering on how you made out with this... i took out my front turn signal this weekend and looked at it and could not figure out a way for this to work because of the white plastic arm that you take out to change the bulb. The connections are intergraded into the arm so the 1157 7528 Hyper Flash Fix Error Free Wiring Adapters For LED Turn Signal Lights would not work for the front signals. Let me now if there was away around this, i almost ran out to buy all this stuff after reading this post last week

i ordered the harness before checking myself i just looked. I dont see how we can use them on the fronts maybe the rears only

**** I didn't check that, I am going to have to really look hard. I was dumb and assumed that it would come in and out like a normal turn signal. Sorry to anyone who followed my path, I will try to find a work-around when they get here (this week), but I am leasing so I can't go cutting the bumper lol. Any chance of a diagram or pics in the meantime? Why would they integrate it into an arm!?!?! ugh, back to the drawing board.....

OK, just checked, and now I am depressed =( This is some voodoo style blinker connection. I hadn't check it since so many on here were modding this, I figured it would be somewhat standard.

I have been thinking how to possibly overcome it by using the LEDs in there, and then using a load resistor with T-taps, but that would mean using a different connector to the housing. I guess I am not such a pro, should have checked first, thanks for catching this.

If we used a different connector to replace the weird white stick (looks like a paint mixing stick), then we could use power from t-taps off the light harness wires to go to that, avoiding the housing-based power source, and leaving the car pretty much in original shape. Now the mission is to find such connectors. I will post again when I find some, if you guys find any, that we can that t-tap to load resistors, let us know.

Did you look at the rear situation? Maybe we can hold onto these for the rear LED turn signal mods, and create a work around on the fronts. Let us know if the harness we bought will work on the rear. thanks

The same harness won't work on the rears since there 1156. Our fronts are 1157 so just to buy all over again to experiment is not the greatest idea I think for now.

i guess i should of read this 1st, now i got switchbacks and the adapters and I can't use them lol
