Plasti Dipped front grille and couple other things...

Not a big fan of chrome and had been thinking about a different front grille but decided to just plasti dip the chrome on the regular SX grille and see how it would look. I think it came out pretty nice, what do you guys think?imagejpeg_6.jpgSince it came out looking good, decided to experiment with a couple of other parts....so, I ended up plasti dipping the spoiler and sides of the roof. I'm not sure if I will end up keeping it all. (for those not familiar, plasti dip can be easily peeled off)...although, the more I see it, the more I like the look. imagejpeg_3_2.jpgimagejpeg_4_2.jpgimagejpeg_5.jpg

I like the look of the grille, but that's about it IMHO! The grille looks as if you had vinyl wrapped it.. Please explain this Plasti Dip to those of us not familiar with it.

**EDIT: Got it, kinda like spray paint plastic.. Google answers all!! Awesome find man, thanks for sharing this with us!

its basically like a normal can of paint, only it becomes a film when left to dry and can be peeled off without leaving any kind of residue behind. A lot of guys on audi and other forums use it to black out their grilles or other parts and even rims. Do a google search or youtube pasti dip, its pretty good stuff. It does not harm the paint and actually protects against rust and other harsh winter elements.

obviously the best part being that if you don't like how it comes out...take if off and no harm no foul...

Did you remove the grill to paint it?

It would probably be a good idea to remove the grille, but I did not. Just masked all the surrounding area and also put newspaper behind the grille so that the radiator doesn't get any particle sprayed on it.

I have been trying to figure out what to do with that bit of color that goes along the roof. I like it from the back but not the front which is the conclusion I came to before this. Thanks for helping my visual though and the grill looks great. Get some shots from farther away may help pull it all together. Also use the image button to post images. It's the one that looks like a picture of a tree.

Yea, I guess I will have to see how that goes. But there are people out there with this stuff on their grille's with bigger plasti dipped area such as the Acura beak that has held up pretty well to everything including the rock chips on the freeway..

I've also read of people having had it on their wheels for months without any chipping.
