A short drive IMO. When I did my wheels I didnt care about overspray since you can just peel the excess off. The overspray lifted right away after drying on the tire rubber. Now to be honest this could have been because I used a ture spray previously so it wasnt like I was spraying it on "fresh" rubber.

Also it doesnt really add a "shine" as its more of a matte finish, but I say give it a try.

The easiest place to find it is at Home Depot in the paint aisle. Walmart and Lowes didnt carry it. It also comes in a mini paint can that you literally dip things in as well but that obviously wouldnt work for wheels haha.

It was around $6 a can and two cans did my wheels with some left over. I sprayed it on fairly thick, doing about three coats

Yea, it's not like it can hurt anything.

Are you aware of the glossifier? That gives a shine.

Maybe if I use some grease removing cleaners on the tire to get it real clean it will work better.

Since you guys are saying it's very durable and what not.. do you think it'll withstand being sprayed over the calipers? I went onto Platidip's website and they also have color kits..

Especially since they sell as shine coat:

I hate the way tires get that pasty look, and tire shine doesn't last long (especially in the rain). And no matter what you do driving the car after applying tire shine sprays at least part of the car with dirty shine -- not good on a SWP.

    Anyone try this with plasti-dip?
I think this video just placed my order to do my wheels.

Does anyone have a preference over this vs. vinyl wrapping? I would think vinyl wrapping that strip around the grill would be difficult. I would like to black out all my chrome. Especially above the windows. and I have no desire to change out my badges, but how cool would they look blacked out! It would still say KIA, but just muted. I think that would look sweet. The door handle chrome. The front qtr panel (M3) looking flair chrome, just everything that is chrome, blacked out-
vinyl wrapping vs. this platidip- any thoughts?

Not sure how it would hold up considering how hot the brake calipers get (I assume since they are brakes they get hot!)

Its essentially a liquid rubber that you spray on then it dries into a rubberized skin. Sort of like a balloon or latex glove in its consistency when you peel it off

As for durabilty for grills and badges, its just like anything where it can and will get chips. They beauty of it is that its rubber so it does deflect some stuff and if its bad enough you can just spray over it again.

If it ever gets too bad you can always tear it all off and do it over! It comes off very easily once you peel the edge. Its like a big latex glove

If i were to paint anything on the brakes or in the engine compartment i would make sure it can handle the heat load.

Yea the heat of the calipers concerned me.. any idea how hot they get? I read on Plasti Dips website that the rubberized material is able to withstand up to 200 Degrees Fahrenheit ..

Daily driving might be ok, but any track work would make it toast real quick. On my Viper, it was a badge of honor if you managed to yellow the white lettering on the caliper from excessive brake heat on fast laps.

Also a way to tell if the car was tracked when buying used.

I am sure it takes more than 200deg to turn that paint yellow.
