    SX Transmission Issues

Thought I would share with this forum as well. I bought my new SX with Premium yesterday and on the way to my in-laws noticed the Malfunction Indicator Light had turned on. I also had no cruise control.

This morning I took it back to the dealer (with no service on Sundays I will have to wait until tomorrow) and it got worse. My speedometer started cutting out randomly for a split second and the "D" for drive would disappear as well. My shifts were jerky and I realized the power to the transmission computer was cutting out and causing me to over rev in second gear and when it came back it would do an immediate shift to third and very rough.

I will post more info tomorrow, but I think this is a new issue. Hopefully it is just a computer reflash issue. Anyone else have jerky gear shifts on their SX?

Here is the update I just posted in the other forum:

Quick update for you guys. Just went to the dealer to check on the tech guy's progress. He had taken the whole dash apart, disconnected and reconnected some things and his diagnostic computer could not communicate with the car. He said this means the car's computer also could not communicate with the car. Once I saw it opened up and heard that he thinks its a bad connection somewhere in the 600 something connections in the dash, I turned to the sales guy and told him I want a new car.

The only other one they had was a Corsa Blue Touring. I passed. Instead he is lining up a dealer trade for cars that just hit the ground. Not only that, they are going to make the swap and then deliver the car to my house nearly 3 hours away.

I know I am one of the few having problems, but I wanted you all to know that for every horror story, there is a nice one. I wont have my car for a few more days, but at least I wasn't forced to own a car who had electrical problems right off the lot.

(FYI, there is a possibility the problem is being caused by the wiring of the after-market dealership alarm system. No problems until they put the chip in to deactivate the system. Something to be aware of as you look at buying one.)

With all of the electronics in cars now, it is scary to be adding anything anymore that is electrical. I could see where a wire or something got nicked and would cause all sorts of issues. Or could have been just a bad wire/component in the build process. These are computers on wheels anymore. I just hope I don't get the BSOD anytime soon

Glad to hear it is being taken care of.

Good to hear that they're taking care of you. Out of all the cars I have owned, I am really impressed with the tranny on this car. The shifting is flawless...even better than my TL.

Glad to hear this is working out and the dealer/Kia are stepping up on this for you.

So here is my final update on this issue. After a week of searching, the dealer located another White SX Premium in Arizona and had it brought in to San Diego on a flatbed with 10 miles on it. He got it Sunday and personally drove it up to my house 3 hours North this morning at 3 AM to do the paperwork. The dealership was amazing.

As for the original one, they still can't figure out what is wrong with it and it sits in the shop. He told me he has obviously involved Kia Corporate and told them the car is a dud. I may check in with him in a couple weeks to see what happened to that one.

For anyone in So Cal, I highly recommend Bill Bayne at Kearny Pearson Kia. He is the internet sales manager and he has been putting holds on all their Optimas before the other sales guys even know they are coming.

Nissan would've just kept the car until they figure out the problem & fixed it, and made me rent a car. Trophy Nissan had my Altima for 19 days working on a synchronizer problem. IMO, that's rediculous.

Good for Kia. Perhaps they'll keep climbing the ladder because of their cars and their customer service.
