    Check Engine Light and stuttering

I have a 2006 Kia Optima, my check engine light keeps coming on and when I step on the gas at times my car stutters, it can happen just when I pick up speed while already moving, or just going from being stopped to taking off. Sometimes it almost seems to want to die, what could this be?

I would take it into the shop ASAP. Sounds like a compression issue.

check it starting from the cheapest and easiest to fix. ill post them in order of cheapest to most expensive.

fuel system clogged - run injector cleaner or fuel system cleaner or seafoam in your gastank.

fuel filter clogged - replace fuel filter with brand new.

spark plugs fouled up - remove spark plugs and check if the tip is black. if it is replace it. if its still has the metal finish showing then return them in the engine.

fuel pump dying - replace fuel pump with used or new fuel pump.

injectors dying/staying open - replace injectors or have then rebuilt.

check spark plugs wire/coils and distributor cap - replace with new units.

hope this helps. i really doubt its a compression issue unless youre seeing blueish white smoke coming from your exhaust.

If you can get somebody to pull the codes from the check engine light it would help me to help you. You can usually get codes read at most of the quick lube places. Post up and we will help you out. Thanks!

Forgot to add. It also might be your MAF. I'd do what Roska suggested and get the readout on what codes the ecu is throwing. It'll definitely help us figure out whats happening to your car.
