Engine Failures - Share Your Experience

Unfortunately, we seem to have a lot of these threads popping up lately, I would like a single thread to discuss engine failures and what people have had to go through to fix it.

If you are going through an engine replacement or have in the past, please be sure to post in here with as much information as you can about the following:

    - Year, Make, Model, Trim
    - Engine/Performance Mods
    - Mileage at the time of failure
    - Determined cause of engine failure
    - Was proper maintenance performed?
    - Was it covered under warranty?
    - Did KIA approve car rental/reimbursement?
    - What was the outcome?

EDIT: Google Doc Spreadsheet by Mr N00blar

....this scares me...Pushing 90k miles, I guess I should start putting pennies away for a new motor, just in case ლ(ಠ益ಠ)ლ

There used to be a running list. 2 years ago it was like 30+ from just forum members when you included TurboHKforums members. That included those with the early '14 Optimas that had the bad batch of motors.

I know there's a lot of them, especially recently. Just seems stupid they would issue a recall for Sonatas and not Optimas.

Good idea to have one thread where all of this info can be posted too!

    Not quite
Are the failures primarily with the turbo engines?
If I were the Bandit Sally'd have 8 kids.

It's more common, but not exclusive to them.

Do the failures extend to just the American built cars or also the Canadian KDM delivered ones ?

I'm curious if its a design flaw or manufacturing

^^ This, good question as I haven't seen or heard any Korean models that has an engine failure yet unless I must have missed it. My 2011 Korean built so far has no major issues yet but I only have about 42K miles, I'm about half way to Munky so it that should buy me another few years before it blows up lol.
