    Navigation Map updates

When we talked with the salesman about the nav map updates he says they update free once every year of ownership. Just call and find out if a map update has come out. Well....I asked and the service rep tells me its $150 for a update. What? Has anyone been told free updates for life????

That doesn't make sense. How would a global positioning system provide you with a data downlink to upgrade your stored map information? LOL

The $150 for an upgrade sounds about right. I don't know any maker that actually provides this updates for free as they're usually provided by a third party. My stepfather would get loaners with nav when he took his Acura in, and since Acura/Honda use the same software, we'd burn off a copy of the latest and greatest. Haven't done it in awhile, but his 2005 and my 2007 are running 2010 software.

$150 sounds right. Such a rip.

You can find copies on ebay for $30 for most makes and models. I do this for the OEM navigation in the wife's Durango.

I had my salesman look into this so he and the service manager looked through all their paperwork and couldnt find anything about paying for the update. He still seemed to think it automatically updates once a year

I haven't found the definitive answer just yet, but since Sirius is integrated with the nav system, I imagine the updates could occur through that data transfer.

Here's the answer, and it won't make you happy. It costs $200 for the update, which comes out once a year, and on top of that you also have to pay $30 for the USB cable. It takes 150 minutes to complete the upgrade.

    Here's where you get it:

    https://www.mapnsoft.com/us/kia/prod...ail.asp?pid=60

I looked into this when I bought my car in July. I wanted to make sure my new car had the latest version, so I looked up the latest version number and had the dealer confirm that the latest version was installed in my car.

Then I called the mapnsoft customer support people and confirmed that they charge you the additional $30 and send you a new loaded USB stick and cable every time you upgrade to the latest version.

Updates come out once a year, I was told (this was in July) that the next version would be available in late August, so it might be out already. I asked her about the 2 1/2 hour upload time and she said that most people do it while they're on a long drive somewhere.

Needless to say I'll be looking for a deal on eBay or not updating my maps.

Here's how to check what version you have now.

Click on the PDF file in the middle of the page. The latest is version 3.07.06

What a rip-off. You could by an updated GPS every year less expensively.
