i am particularly nervous about the carbon buildup on the intake valves of the GDI engines. Sorry for the paranoid initial post!

Welcome to the community of Optima owners.

Congrats on getting the SXL model.

What is it exactly you were nervous about? Maybe we can help.

Some catch cans or injector cleaner will get the job done. I just ordered my catch cans on Friday. Do a search for more info. I know we have VERY knowledgeable people on here. So no worries!

BG makes a DI injection and carbon cleaner we sell at work. From the seminar they gave us on it when they first came out with product and the pictures of their test car ford taurus SHO it was remarkable. Its a kit and you put the chemical through a vacuum hose on the intake side. If you want to look into that. It is new though and you shouldn't worry about that right now. Enjoy your new car.

Antonbr Welcome to the forum. I would recommend a search in the Tech/Engine threads. You would find a lot of info to help you solve any issues.

You can also shoot us any questions that you may have.

    What color did you get?

    Welcome to the forums!

There are ways to clean the carbon build up or help prevent it from happening but an easy way to maintain the overall integrity of the vehicle is perform all route maintenance on time

snowwhitesxl13 is right, its new and nothing you have to worry about right now

Thanks guys! Have done a lot of reading on the subject and the threads here have been helpful. Will talk to my mechanic tomorrow, will probably go the BG's route when it is time. Have been a user of BG's MOA in all my cars. I got the Titanium Grey color. Love the car!

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the car! If you run top tier gas which have cleaning additives in the mixture, you should be fine (Exxon, Shell, BP, etc.). I have a hybrid and put in premium 93 mostly, I notice the car runs better and actually gets better mileage. I stopped looking for stations with cheap gas after seeing what occurred in my 535 after a couple of years running cheap gas and 87,89 octane. While our car is rated to use 87, the dealer is supposed to put in cleaning additives at each 7500 mile service which should help with preventing this buildup.
