Possible to add Car Play head unit to 2014 Optima / Suggestions

Currently have 2014 Optima EX with Infinity Sound System/Navigation. Just curious if I were to get a head unit that has Apple Car Play in the future, any recommendations. Also, would it add anything to my current system outside of just the Car Play feature?

I recommend going with a kenwood stereo that has CarPlay. It wouldn't add anything else other than the extra features the stereo you choose comes with. Choose wisely lol there are plenty of features and stereos.

That would resolve the CarPlay issue, and those Kenwood units are really nice, but then what about the steering wheel integration, what about the Hyrbrid information, or the general car settings that are managed through UVO.

More important than anything, what about the AC controls?

Yes, the kenwood would solve the issue for CarPlay. Steering wheel control is still functional with the right SWC adapter. Also premium Sound (Infinity) is still retainable as I have done this myself.

Thats your only issue. As I have not worked on the Hybrids.

The AC controls is also still retainable. You just have to do ALOT of work to get that working.

idatalink makes a module that retains factory functions on the kenwood stereo, But sadly they dont make anything for KIA(as always)

Just speculation here, but the 2015 UVO radio may be a plug and play upgrade to the 2014 KIA Optima with stock navigation.

I am looking for a used 2015 radio w/navigation on Ebay so that I may do a swap into my 2014 to get Car Play.

Wow so i just looked up that stereo. If i was looking at the right one it seems the screen on the Uvo system is much much smaller then the one on the 2014 nav unit. Im not even sure Android auto would be useable on such a small screen

Same size for the 2014-15. Your looking at the wrong one. The small screen UVO headunit doesn't have Navi and also doesn't get carplay support.

I found a used navigation radio on Ebay from a 2015 Optima for $380.00.

The 2014 and 2015 navigation radios have two different model numbers.

The 2015 model number is 96560-4C100CA

The 2014 model number is 96560-2T900CA

Most used radios I found on Ebay are from 2014 donor cars even though they are listed for 2014 and 2015 models, so check the model number and the donor car information before buying.

The plugs seem to be the same on both models so unless there is some kind of software issue that prevents the 2015 radio from working in a 2014 Optima it should be plug and play.

However, I do not want to pay $380 for a radio and then pay another $100 for the 10.5 software upgrade right now.

But it would be cheaper than buying a decent Kenwood or Pioneer navigation radio with Car play so I may just bite the bullet and order the 2015 radio off Ebay I found before it get sold.

Update: I just went ahead and bought the 2015 radio since I have a 90 day return on it if it do not work.

So I will update everyone if it works or not.

My only reason for wanting to upgrade my 2014 for a newer car is to get a radio with Carplay, so this will make me that much happier with my car if the 2015 radio does work.
